  1. Ohhh and to answer the first question I didn't take the transmission out or do the work. Most of this has been explained to me over the phone so not sure exactly when the transmission died. I know it was not shifting properly for a long time even before replaced the clutch but all my info is second hand. All I know is that upon taking it apart there was some major internal damage.
  2. So the best thing realistically to do would be to find a transmission with the right front differential. Makes sense. dont really wanna go to all the work of replacing the trans and the rear diff would rather just replace the Trans. Thanks so much guys you have made my life way easier. I will keep looking for a 4.11 trans.
  3. OK so my brothers Transmission went out on him at 140k thought it was just the clutch pack dieing on him so we replaced that. After replacing the clutch and the rear clutch pack the thing would not shift at all. Turns out the whole thing is shot on the inside I think its the synchros or something. Anyways I have a line on a transmission from a 2000 2.2 mprezza that has a Final drive ratio of 3.90 while my brothers has a FD of 4.11. My question is if I swap out the rear clutch packs from the outback transmission to the new Imprezza transmission will that fix the binding problem or is it the actual internals of the transmission that is different. The reason I ask is cause I have the new clutch pack that we bought originally. Anyways any help would be great trying to get this done for him for Christmas. He has been riding his bike but it just got stolen and 4 other bikes of his have gotten stolen in the past year. He works in a bad part of town. Thanks so much guys Merry Christmas. http://www.northursalia.com/techdocs/trannychart/trannychart.pdf Just to prove I have done my research /\
  4. I am trying to figure this out for my brother he has a 2000 outback and the tranny died on him. its a manual and I have a line on a 2003 subaru forester manual for only 500 bucks with 70k on it. Anyways what I am wondering is will it work before i go out and buy the hunk of metal. his numbers on the outback tranny are TY754VCACA I dont have the numbers off the forester yet Thanks guys would not have asked but I couldent really find the info anywhere else.
  5. this is for the imprezza 1997 http://opposedforces.com/parts/impreza/us_g10/type_65/suspension_and_axle/front_axle/illustration_4/ What I really need to know is the difference between outback and legacy cv joints/front axle
  6. http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b11/type_39/suspension_and_axle/front_axle/illustration_4/ this is the part number for the 1999 legacy brighton
  7. Ok guys I did a google search and went through a few forums and theres is no real good info on what CV joints work with what. Anybody Got a list out there that could help me My problem is I have an Legacy brighton with outback struts and springs. I installed it yesterday and well now I have clickin on my left axle. I need to know what ones work with what So i can get the right cv joint in there. I dont want to do all the work and figure out that its just gonna break again. I have a cv joint I can get from a 1997 imprezza for 20 bucks it only had 80 grand on it. Anyways I figure with all your guys brains we could put togeather a good list for this. Or mby there is one and I just missed it. Most the ones I came across were for the wrx and that like none for the outback and legacy. Thanks so much I have a 1999 subaru legacy brighton with outback struts.
  8. Ok So I got one from a 1997 and the tach works great in there no problem. I compared the circuit ribbon at the back and they are the exact same. I however dont know if the speedo will work yet because my speed sensor is fried so thats my next step ohhh joy!!!
  9. Ok So my speed sensor connector fell off on to my CAt and melted So I put a new speed sensor in and well now I have no idea how to wire a new connector in because it melted. I tried one way but it shorted out and instead of shorting out more I would like to just know what way the wires go into the speed sensor. Any way that anybody could send me a pic of their connector and how it attaches to the speed sensor.? It should be the same years 1999 through 2002 I think Thank you so much. 10. The easiest and cheapest fix is to just go to your parts store and buy a universal boot to replace it. it comes in two parts, cut the old one off clean it out then repack the bearings with grease. The replacement comes in two parts and glues together then clamps on. I have only used one once but it seemed to hold pretty well. just make sure you clean it well and glue it well!! http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_c-v-joint-solvent-welded-split-boot-kit-outer-dorman--oe-solutions_5830000-p[/url]
  11. I have heard that you can make the earlier speedos work but we will see I ordered a 98 legacy for 40 bucks off ebay. Yeah my speedo is exceptionally broke not sure why. But all the fixes dont wanna work. I tried soldering a ground on and even resolderd a few broken cold joints. still wont even move a mm. I took it to a speedo shop and he tested it and it didnt turn on for me as well. I have not been lazy at looking up threads pretty much have read every one that deals with speedo fixes. OHHh well hopefully this new speedo will work possibly I can hard wire it in some how or what ever. Its not a complete loss 40 bucks for a Tach if the speedo wont work is fine with me.
  12. done and done!! I need one soon lol have to pass smog on Sat ahhh the joys of California!
  13. Now I wish I could find a Legacy Speedo and tach that is not a million dollars!!
  14. Sounds like a win win Situation for me. I need to replace the struts any ways they are pretty much shot. Any recommendation on brands and what do ya think about using used struts? Also anything I should be worried about on the front struts? thanks Seb 1999 subaru Legacy brighton 1998 Subaru Legacy 1995 subaru Legacy 1991 Subaru Legacy 1986 Subaru Dl
  15. Well fair tax you changed my mind. And well I figure since the Speedo still is not actually working its probly my problem, makes sense right. My question would be to you or any body else out there is I am gonna buy a whole dash cluster from a legacy so I can put a tach in while I am at it Would you know what years would work for that? I have a 1999 and I would rather stay away from the 1999 speedos since I hear they are well junk!
