  1. Ohhh and to answer the first question I didn't take the transmission out or do the work. Most of this has been explained to me over the phone so not sure exactly when the transmission died. I know it was not shifting properly for a long time even before replaced the clutch but all my info is second hand. All I know is that upon taking it apart there was some major internal damage.
  2. So the best thing realistically to do would be to find a transmission with the right front differential. Makes sense. dont really wanna go to all the work of replacing the trans and the rear diff would rather just replace the Trans. Thanks so much guys you have made my life way easier. I will keep looking for a 4.11 trans.
  3. OK so my brothers Transmission went out on him at 140k thought it was just the clutch pack dieing on him so we replaced that. After replacing the clutch and the rear clutch pack the thing would not shift at all. Turns out the whole thing is shot on the inside I think its the synchros or something. Anyways I have a line on a transmission from a 2000 2.2 mprezza that has a Final drive ratio of 3.90 while my brothers has a FD of 4.11. My question is if I swap out the rear clutch packs from the outback transmission to the new Imprezza transmission will that fix the binding problem or is it the actual internals of the transmission that is different. The reason I ask is cause I have the new clutch pack that we bought originally. Anyways any help would be great trying to get this done for him for Christmas. He has been riding his bike but it just got stolen and 4 other bikes of his have gotten stolen in the past year. He works in a bad part of town. Thanks so much guys Merry Christmas. http://www.northursalia.com/techdocs/trannychart/trannychart.pdf Just to prove I have done my research /\
  4. I am trying to figure this out for my brother he has a 2000 outback and the tranny died on him. its a manual and I have a line on a 2003 subaru forester manual for only 500 bucks with 70k on it. Anyways what I am wondering is will it work before i go out and buy the hunk of metal. his numbers on the outback tranny are TY754VCACA I dont have the numbers off the forester yet Thanks guys would not have asked but I couldent really find the info anywhere else.
  5. this is for the imprezza 1997 http://opposedforces.com/parts/impreza/us_g10/type_65/suspension_and_axle/front_axle/illustration_4/ What I really need to know is the difference between outback and legacy cv joints/front axle
  6. http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b11/type_39/suspension_and_axle/front_axle/illustration_4/ this is the part number for the 1999 legacy brighton
  7. Ok guys I did a google search and went through a few forums and theres is no real good info on what CV joints work with what. Anybody Got a list out there that could help me My problem is I have an Legacy brighton with outback struts and springs. I installed it yesterday and well now I have clickin on my left axle. I need to know what ones work with what So i can get the right cv joint in there. I dont want to do all the work and figure out that its just gonna break again. I have a cv joint I can get from a 1997 imprezza for 20 bucks it only had 80 grand on it. Anyways I figure with all your guys brains we could put togeather a good list for this. Or mby there is one and I just missed it. Most the ones I came across were for the wrx and that like none for the outback and legacy. Thanks so much I have a 1999 subaru legacy brighton with outback struts.
  8. Ok So I got one from a 1997 and the tach works great in there no problem. I compared the circuit ribbon at the back and they are the exact same. I however dont know if the speedo will work yet because my speed sensor is fried so thats my next step ohhh joy!!!
  9. Ok So my speed sensor connector fell off on to my CAt and melted So I put a new speed sensor in and well now I have no idea how to wire a new connector in because it melted. I tried one way but it shorted out and instead of shorting out more I would like to just know what way the wires go into the speed sensor. Any way that anybody could send me a pic of their connector and how it attaches to the speed sensor.? It should be the same years 1999 through 2002 I think Thank you so much. 10. The easiest and cheapest fix is to just go to your parts store and buy a universal boot to replace it. it comes in two parts, cut the old one off clean it out then repack the bearings with grease. The replacement comes in two parts and glues together then clamps on. I have only used one once but it seemed to hold pretty well. just make sure you clean it well and glue it well!! http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_c-v-joint-solvent-welded-split-boot-kit-outer-dorman--oe-solutions_5830000-p[/url]
  11. I have heard that you can make the earlier speedos work but we will see I ordered a 98 legacy for 40 bucks off ebay. Yeah my speedo is exceptionally broke not sure why. But all the fixes dont wanna work. I tried soldering a ground on and even resolderd a few broken cold joints. still wont even move a mm. I took it to a speedo shop and he tested it and it didnt turn on for me as well. I have not been lazy at looking up threads pretty much have read every one that deals with speedo fixes. OHHh well hopefully this new speedo will work possibly I can hard wire it in some how or what ever. Its not a complete loss 40 bucks for a Tach if the speedo wont work is fine with me.
  12. Sounds like a win win Situation for me. I need to replace the struts any ways they are pretty much shot. Any recommendation on brands and what do ya think about using used struts? Also anything I should be worried about on the front struts? thanks Seb 1999 subaru Legacy brighton 1998 Subaru Legacy 1995 subaru Legacy 1991 Subaru Legacy 1986 Subaru Dl
  13. Well fair tax you changed my mind. And well I figure since the Speedo still is not actually working its probly my problem, makes sense right. My question would be to you or any body else out there is I am gonna buy a whole dash cluster from a legacy so I can put a tach in while I am at it Would you know what years would work for that? I have a 1999 and I would rather stay away from the 1999 speedos since I hear they are well junk! Thanks 1999 subaru Legacy brighton 1998 Subaru Legacy 1995 subaru Legacy 1991 Subaru Legacy 1986 Subaru Dl
  14. I am trying to do the same thing at the moment but I have a legacy Brighton. I have heard that you can take a legacy gauge cluster out and put it in a brighton with no probs. Try an look for one from a regular imprezza if you want the tach. Also you can usually get an after market tach and if you find the wire off the ECU that inputs for the tach you can just hard wire it into that and have a tach. I have done this on other cars not a Subaru so dont quote me on it.
  15. I need to replace my speedo and I am sick of not having a tach just wondering if anybody has ever taken one from a legacy and put it in a brighton and will that give CEL codes? Thanks for all your knowledge Sebastian
  16. I have heard you need to put a new camber bolt in the back does this sound right to you?
  17. I have a 1999 Legacy Brighton That Is already beat the crap out of and well I figure it would be way better to have more clearance so it looks like it has a reason to be beat up. Anyways can I put Outback springs and Shocks in it to give it lift or will this mess with my Axles? I would love to do a few inch lift but not sure how to go about this on a Subaru? any advice?? Thanks so much Sebastian
  18. Thanks but i got that out need to figure out the codes now. 1507 and a intermittent p0500 Replacing the Neutral safety switch today hopefully that will fix it. 32008AA074 I think this is probly it because when I clear the codes she runs great for about 5 mins and then CEL comes on again with a 1507 and starts to run horrible.
  19. Its a manual. And has had a rev limiter on for ages. Today I took out and grounded the soldered the connections on the speedo. This actually fixed the rev limiter and the car worked like a dream but the CEL was still on. I cleared the codes at work left the battery off for a few hours and then about 3 mins into driving the CEL comes back on and the Rev limiter kicks back in. Its going into fail safe mode for some odd reason and I cant figure it out GRRRRR. After clearing the codes and having the CEL light up again its now only giving me the P500 code or actually 2 P500 codes one with a little symbol next to it? So far the speedo still does not work but i have done all recommended fixes that i know of. The speed sensor has been replaced I checked and the gear inside is moving. took the SS out and checked the slots position. drove a bit and checked again and it moved so its got to be moving the SS. I checked that the wire from the SS to the Speedo is completing a circuit and it does. Replaced the PCV valve today as well because it is idling horrible. When I start it up in the morning it really just loses all power whats so ever. Just gets bogged down. It however did not do that earlier today after having messed with the speedo all day? I dont get it and I have to have it smogged and registered by the 26th ohh got to love CA smog laws. thanks guys
  20. hey do you guys know if this problem will cause a CEL and a p500 code or P1507 code at all? I have a 1999 subaru Legacy Brighton thanks
  21. I ended up getting it out. after a lot of different methods a mixture of a heat gun (thanks woods) and prying it out with a flat head got it out. However it only made my problem worse. Put the new one in and had to actually hard wire it in because my harness was melted I felt like I had good connections all around but the speedo still wont move. I fixed the head already with the screw like a lot of guys have been doing so I dont know what else to do. Also now I am getting a 1507 code which I hear is a AICV but I dont get why that code only showed up after I replaced the speed sensor. any thoughts again my car is a 1999 subaru legacy Brighton. with about 160k on it. alot of rust to . any thoughts? Thanks so much
