I really like your ride, I'm looking for a GL or Loyale wagon to build similar to yours. If you don't mind me asking, what did you do to yours to fit those larger wheels & tires under there? Did you do anything to adjust your gearing?

So how did you come across your Loyale? How long have you had it?

I would plan on the mild 2" lift and 26 or 27 inch tires. I have a line on a super clean 1992 Loyale in central Iowa right now. If it's still there next Friday, a friend and I are hittin' the road to go get it. It's Black with a 5 speed, only 105,000 miles and the AC is still cold. Didn't see any rust in the pics, but it's a black car so it could be hiding it well. If it's as good as they claim, I'll be driving it back and have it in my driveway that Friday night.

By the way, when you added your larger tires, did you do anything to adjust your gearing? At 90hp, these things aren't impressive to drive in the first place, is it possible to change the front and rear gear ratios to adjust for the additional tire diameter and rotating mass? Also, do you know if it is relatively easy to swap in a 5 speed with dual range 4WD from an older GL into these cars as well to replace the single range push button 4WD?

I picked up a '92 Loyale this weekend for $500. Not the one I was looking at, this one is rusty but good (for the most part) mechanically. It's a 5 speed with push button 4wd. My wife wants it gone, so I don't know what to do. Know any one that might be interested? I would still like a gl or loyale wagon, but it will have to be cleaner than this one. I was also considering parting it out and waiting for a cleaner one to show up. What do you think?

No, it's listed for $500. It's kind of a silver/blue color and the body is pretty bad. A lot of good working mechanical and electrical stuff. I still really want a wagon, but my wife really hates this rusty one. It doesn't help that I have a truck, car, and my '56 Chrysler either in addition to her car. I sold the motorcycle, but it wasn't enough.

I did initially list it for $800 trying to make some money, but then I decided I'd rather not be a bastard.

Thanks for the info by the way on the trans swap, but one more question. Were you able to adjust your speedometer to reflect your actual speed? Or do you just deal with it? On my old Chrysler it's real easy to adjust the speedometer, there's just a little housing with a gear drive off the tail shaft of the transmission that you swap out, takes about 2 minutes. I have four different ratios to choose from, now all I need are four rear end gear sets.

By the way, stick shift is definitely the way to go. Manuals give you better control, better performance, better mileage, weigh less, and last longer due to there simplicity. If you ever have the chance to convert yours, I would recommend it.

I grew up driving old V8 cars, my '82 Chrysler used to run at 2000 RPM at 70 mph. My Honda (and my wife's) run in the 3000 to 3500 range at highway speeds and I'm still trying to get used to it. If you're aware of a clean Loyale wagon being sold, let me know. My wife's cool with it as long as it's in as good or better shape than my '95 Honda Civic (which I would be forced to sell after purchasing another car). I don't blame her, I do tend to drag home some real gems some times.

Scott, how do your 4x140mm to 5x205mm adapters affect the wheels' offset and back spacing? Can you send me a picture of the adapters?

15"x5" with VW 5x205mm bolt pattern. Offset is -3.00mm and backspacing is 2.875 inches. How would these look mounted on my '92 Loyale wagon? I don't want the wheels to stick way out of the wheel wells. I don't know what the stock offset and backspacing is, but the stock 13" wheels are a little to far "under" the car for my taste. Planning a 2" lift with 15" wheels for better ground clearance. Do you think this setup would look okay?

Also available are 15"x5" with +13.00mm offset and 3.5 inch backspacing or 15"x6" with -6.00mm offset and 3.25 inch backspacing.

I would offer $1700 for you wagon, but you would have to be willing to be available for a transporter to come pick it up and ship it to Wisconsin. I could send you a money order or pay by paypal, but they take a cut. You could want to ship and sign title until the money order clears. I'm working on getting shipping quotes right now just in case, but I have a few questions. How much lift is under it, 2"? What brand lift? Any mechanical concerns? I would be counting on you to be honest as a USMB member since it would be too costly for me to come see the car, but I would love to have a nice southern, rust free wagon like this and you have the setup I'm looking for (manual, dual range 4wd, wagon, and so on).

Do the wheels ever rub any where? Do the tires still wear evenly? How do you feel about my offer? Please let me know. I will be busy tonight (ZZ Top & Tom Petty at SummerFest) and I'll be standing up in a wedding tomorrow. I'll check back here when I can.

I did a little calling and emailing around and I found a transporter that can ship the car from your house to my house for about $500, which is a hell of a lot easier than flying down there, getting a taxi to your house, and then driving back without car titled or licensed in my name (and therefore not insured either). What kind of preventative care? I take good care of my cars, but is there anything above and beyond the usual that I should be aware of?
