1996 Impreza Brighton 2-door. 5x7 speakers in the rear deck?
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLooking at them, they are definately oval; not round. I replaced the blown 6.5 inch front-door speakers, but the rear deck speakers are next on my list because they sound 50% blown.

Looking to change front and rear diff fluid on my 1996 impreza brighton
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX5-speed manual with 276k on the car. I bought a pump from amazon too for the diff fluid change. I am changing the fluid because of two symptoms: 1. When backing out of driveway, when I turn the wheel sharply, it seems to 'drag' a little and slows the car down. Only seems to happen when cold in the morning. 2. Slight high-pitched vibration during the first 5 miles or so when cold in the morning. Mimicks a u-joint vibration or driveshaft balance vibration. I'm changing the fluid to see if it improves at all...

Looking to change front and rear diff fluid on my 1996 impreza brighton
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhat kind of fluid should I put in the diff? I'd prefer to stick with whatever a Subaru dealer would install if you were to go to them. Does friction modifier need to be added too? Thank you to everyone who previously posted.

Looking to change front and rear diff fluid on my 1996 impreza brighton
Can someone tell me everything I need to know before I start? How much fluid? What kind? Easiest trick to get the fluid up in the hole?

1996 Impreza Brighton (EJ18)
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI can add to this mystery. It seems to be fine about 1500 miles after an oil change. Then, once I change the oil, within 20 miles or so, it's back. Maybe it's because air is getting trapped in a lifter???? comes and goes. Happens at any RPM.

I'm looking for a place that sells authentic Subaru parts online. subaruproparts.com seems to be dead... any info on that one?

Alternator bearing whines a little when cold
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthanks for all the ideas.. i may just end up calling some salvage yards for some sub-100k mile cars... it might be about the same price and less work.

Alternator bearing whines a little when cold
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's a 1996 Impreza Brighton with 260k on it. I would say it's not a whine, it's a screeching noise that seems to only do it the first couple minutes after startup. It almost sounds like the noise you get when you spin something too fast and it starts frea'kin out. Does that help? I drive it to work 30% of the time and it's 90 miles round trip. Charges fine and is not a "whine" like when an alternator is charging heavily.

Alternator bearing whines a little when cold
Isee that advance auto has bearings for $10. Is it worth it to replace that on a perfectly working alternator? Hard? Need a press? Anyone on here done it before?

1990 Legacy 2.2 MISFIRE
kickascii replied to artie b's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have the same problem. Have you done the comp test yet? I also have a noisy lifter that comes and goes. Could it cause a valve to not open far enough (or not let the valve close) to affect compression a little bit?

Thinking about changing valve cover gaskets on my ej18 (and cleaning oil passages)
kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThank you guys! Would you recommend the ATF or Seafoam first? Also, have you ever taken the rockers off to clean the oil passage? Any pics? It's a tick that is off and on randomly at any RPM. Seems like it's slow enough to be one rocker...

Thinking about changing valve cover gaskets on my ej18 (and cleaning oil passages)
Any tips, pictures, or links to previous how-to's? I have 1 valve (lifter) that is clicking almost continually and ready to see if it's an easy fix. Thank you for anything you have to offer.

kickascii replied to kickascii's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNever really goes away. 250,000 miles on it and it comes and goes even after driving for an hour... Just worn out?

Adjustable valve clearance? They love to tick randomly. Sometimes louder, and then goes away. Then comes back.
