  1. Found the Tell Tale Sensor what a pain in the rump roast. It shattered upon removal but was totally green from the sockets up about 3 inches! Replaced it all with a new sensor and a honda F/I plug... WAY better quality, and you dont have to worry as much about losing the retaining clip as it wraps around also the Honda F/I plug I Used has gasketing inside.

Talk about the fastest, cheapest and easiest + most effective fix i've ever done to a car.

    200% better!

  2. I have an 87' GL-10 that has been hard starting since I bought it... But with the new colder weather that has been amplified to almost a 30 sec pull on the starter. Plugs are black and new, I replaced all the ignition parts with NGK stuff as im a firm believer in NGK parts.

Im thinking its a Coolant sensor, but where is that bad boy? And if thats not it what are my other options?

Car has 120k on the ODO, and was running great even though rich up untill it got cold outside (below 40). The cold starting is a little rough but it starts. other then that there is a little oil bypass on the turbo, but not enough to worry yet.

  3. Hey all I already had an '88 gl d/r 5mt sedan, now I lifted it and picked up an '87 gl10 5mt fulltime 4wd sedan for my DD..

The GL10 runs great but... the center diff is always locked and displays a fault on the dash, leaks oil, tach no workie, and most of the switches around the gauge cluster are gone or defunct..

Anybody have any ideas about the Diff.. I dislike barking tires in parking lots.. valve covers are leaking like a ***************...

I did some research theres not much on the fulltime 4wd diff lock up..

  4. I just got mine as well I left the rubber block and plate alone and only had to weld a plate onto the 4wd shifter arm to augment the position.. Other wise no FWD! all is well on mine except the lh front mudflap is stuck on and i need it off to not rub!.. Took it on the trail anyhow... nary a problem! the ruts that I dreaded before are no more..

  5. It will either be a in line clog of some kind or dirty condenser. Do you do any off-roading? I am not sure if you have an orifice tube, but that is a possibility.(orifice tubes are basically filters inside the lines) Can you find out why it's cutting out? High limit switch would be my guess.

I dont do much offroading, I live on a gravel road and sometimes just the drive to and from home can be just as harry as off-roading.. Condensor and radiator are squeaky clean, wash all the cars once a week. I wouldnt think that the high pressure switch would be kicking on at idle, it would be hard for me to believe it would be having a high enough pressure to kick off at idle but not at speed.. I was under the impression orifice tubes were a way of converting volume to pressure and vice versa..

What im trying to figure out is whats the deal with the trip sensor and reluctor ring on the compressor clutch?

  6. Well I have been hitting the Soobie pretty hard and I finally decided to do some maintenance, only performed an oil change prior to this weekend. Changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter and the EGR purge solenoid.... The plugs were eroded to almost nothing, the car is alot smoother now! Got my pugs from McBrat and ordered up some tires... things are coming along.. now going to talk to some people about a lift kit....

  8. By cel I mean check engine light, how do I get the trouble codes? I have read alot of back posts, I seem to have all the connectors but it's very unclear if the cel light blinks and which connectors should be connected on my car. I can reset the cel but that's about all I seem to get done. The cel seems to be related to running the a/c.

Thanks for any help. I'm not new to wrenching just subarus!

  9. Welcome aboard, Jason. Great place here--but I think you know that already!

Loved your description . . . (everything works on it, including the CEL!)

Yeah, about that... Having a helluva time trying to figure out the CEL as it started hitting more often with the use of the A/C more then normal..

Seems I have a million connectors and cant figure out how to get codes.. lol.. Its an 88 GL with F/I.. ugh..

  10. Hello all, I been lurking around here for a bit! Finally joined since im hard looking for an SVX that meets my criteria (quality/price) I have an 88 GL sedan w/4wd (everything works on it, including the CEL!). Its time to get something that is a lil faster and more comfy'. I have a hard time getting over 75MPH, lol.. But love the fact that I can go off road (lol my driveway) and not have to take it as easy as driving on the street in my mustang. Fun Fun Fun...

Im hoping to step up to an SVX this weekend I have 3 that are within 100 miles im looking at on saturday. Eventually Ill do an MTX swap, just not sure how tough it will be on an AWD car, ive done about 6 swaps on fords & hondas (engines, trannies etc..), never been into a Subi'.
