  1. Before everybody jumps on me and says "we've said it a thousand times. read the older posts" I have read the older posts. I've even conversed with some of the great people from this forum, but I still don't have any spark. What I do have apparently is a FREAK of a motor. It's a Ea81. I have replaced everything(ign. coil, p.u. coil, coil wire, rewired coming back from the battery) except the ditsy itself. I am hesitant to do that, because i don't want to drop another $140 and change on a "new" re-maned ditsy and still have no flame. I'm asking you to put your thinking caps on. One of you good people knows what the issue is. I just need you to tell me. All help is greatly appreciated as my wife's ride has been a yard gnome for the past 4 months.
  2. I have a 86 Vanaru with the ea81 conversion. I can't get it to throw fire. I have replaced the pick up coil, the ignition coil, coil wire, re wired and still nothing. Is there anybody familiar with the wiring up front on a Vanagon ?? Maybe this is where my problem is. Thanks
  3. Turbone- I've checked the ignition switch and have 11.8 volts at the coil. Brumby- I've checked both wires coming out of the pick up coil (black & white and yellow) for continuity to which they both test fine, but when I test them for an open gound the yellow has no open ground and the black & white one does. I don't know if that is how it's supposed to be or if something is jacked up there. Do you know ??
  4. I have a Ea81 out of a 83 Brat that I finished the Vanaru conversion on. It's run fine till about 3 weeks ago and now there is no spark. I have replaced the coil, the pick up coil and the cap & rotor. My vertical play in the disty shaft is less than 1/8 of an inch and I no longer have the fusable links. I am completly at a loss as to why I cant get any fire. If anybody has had this same issue or if you know somebody who has or even if your second cousin on your moms side through marriage, but once removed knew some guy back in high school who knew this other guy that might be able to figure out the problem PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Tell them to respond to the thread. Thanks Everybody Boo
  5. thanks everybody for your advice. Thanks to hatchsub. I will go back through everything and try again. Indrid cold what I meant by "had spark, hooked it up then no spark" was I put the new module in and had the coil wire pulled to test for spark. Had good spark put it back together tried to start it with no luck. Pulled the coil wire back off to re-test and now no spark
  6. Not that I know of. The reason I say that is because when I first got the new module I had spark. Then I hooked it up and no spark. It's been the most frustrating thing I have ever dealt with
  7. I've been a VW guy my whole life but with some urging from my wife I purchased her a Vanagon that somebody had started the subaru conversion on. I'm not sure what the actual donor car was the motor came out of but I do know it is a Ea81 motor. I had to finish the conversion and from the parts I had to find I think it's out of a 83 brat. Here is my problem. Wife, kids and I rolling down the road in her Vanaru when it just dies. It's run fine since last december until now and now, no spark. At All. I replaced the interior pick up coil/control module(i think that's what its called) and it still is not throwing fire. I have tried 4 different coils and still nothing. ANY AND ALL ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Please let me know what you think the problem could be. Thanks guys
