  1. it was a please doing business with all of you! I have sold my XT and traded back to Ford, (1977 Pinto Crusing Wagon). I have posted all the spare parts that I have left over on the market Place forum. Was a real blast while it lasted, but I never could figure out the electrical problems with the car. Later all. Keeb~
  2. No one makes a dual exhaust for the XT? My system only has one O2 sensor, would that be ok to run off one side of a dual exhaust?
  3. Does anyone know where I can get a Dual Exhaust setup for the XT GL? And how can I bypass the O2 sensor? Keeb~
  4. My 1987 XT has all of a sudden decided to run the battery down in a few hours. the battery is new and I cant find a draw or short from anywhere. Got to work yesterday, everything was ok untill I started to leave, the battery was dead. I got a jump start and the volt meter was registering 13.5v. got to the house (2 miles away) and shut it off. The car re-started just fine (5:00 pm) by 9:30pm it was dead again. I took the battery out and set it on a trickle charge all night. This morning I reinstalled it and went to work, disconnecting the battery when I got there. When I left, I hooked it up and it started fine... I figured if the battery was bad it would have trickled down sitting there, but it didnt. I did notice that when I reconnect the negative cable there are a few Faint sparks coming from the post, but everything is shut off. Any ideas on what else to look for? Keeb~
  5. yuppers.... that was the first thing. then reset the timing, new plugs, wires, rotor cap and bug.
  6. My 1987 XT FWD has a sputtering problem...Step on the gas ans she sputters..(a lot)...ease off the gas and she smooths out and runs fine. I disconnected the #1 injector wire and noticed that it had a lot of Green corrision on the terminals. I cleaned them and it runs somewhat better now. I want a little more giddie-up to her, more than what it has now. Should I upgrade the injectors? JcWhitney.com has 3 types listed for the car... 14#-17#. should I replace them or could it be another problem? Later all, Keeb~
  7. I once bought a 1978 Brat that had a Unit electrically wired to the Carburetor and had a separate resivior on the side that held water. It was supposed to atomize the water and inject it into the carb along with the fuel. the unit was supposed to add HP and better mileage... What a mess! I took it off and got better preformance and the gas mileage i was supposed to (for a Brat). If it was such a good deal, I figure the Factory would have installed it themselves as part of the design. Rarely can aftermarket items enhance the original desingn and performance of a vehicle. I wouldnt waste my money bro.... Thats my 2 cents worth. Later, Kahnn~
  8. Hate to hear about the crash bro, just hope your OK. I totaled a Tricked out BRAT in 1988 the same exact way, but wierd thing was, I hit a Subaru GL and it SURVIVED! Just poped out his fender and went on his merry own way while I got the ticket. Thanks for the confession, now say 10 Hail Mary's and call me in the morning.
  9. My 1987 XT, w/ Auto runs exactly the same rpm's. I too thought this was a bit high, but then again, all the "Bru's" i've had has been 4 or 5 speeds. Seems to like 3500 @ 65mph the best.Later, keeb~
  10. Does anoyone know where I can get a convertable Kit for my XT? Or what types of other cars with the rag-top will fit? Later, Keeb~ ______________ There are OLD Pilots and BOLD Pilots...Never OLD~BOLD Pilots.
  11. Also...I'm not sure what model the engine is, but it is NON-turbo, 1.8 MPFI, FWD, Automatic. Later all. Keeb~ _______________ 10:14 pm 06-11-04 I adjusted the timing the OLD School way.... turned it both directions untill idled rough, found center, then throttled up to 2K rpm, adjusted untill ran smooth. The car still sputers a lil bit, but can climb the hill behind our house now. I cant find a timing mark anywhere to adjust it with the light gun. Any ideas? I'm going to AutoZ**e tomorrow to get new fluids and filters, good old fashioned NGK plugs, and Gas treatment. it might help a bit more.... Last Question, is there any site that I can find performance mods, (Body, engine) just for the MPFI 1.8 non-turbo XT? later all, Keeb~
  12. I just bought my first XT. I have owned several Subies over the years but this one has me stumped.... Runs fine at idle, but when I throttle up, it begins to sputter and cough. Power is weak on take-off, but is semi-OK at running speed (55 mph). At itle the exhaust output is normal, but in Park, throttled up, exhaust pressure drops considerbaly. I thought it was the front Catalyst (it was getting hot and smoking, might have been getting plugged), so I carved out the guts and re-welded it. Seemed to help a bit, but still doing the same thing. I also checked the dist cap and it is new as well as the rotor bug. Plugs are also new (BOSCH Platnium). the car only has 84K miles on it and is a one owner, garage kept it entire life. the previous owner has low oil pressure at itle and was knocking, so he replaced it with a salvage motor with 40K miles on it. Any ideas GREATLY Apprecited! Later all. Keeb~ ________________________________ There are OLD Pilots and BOLD Pilots...Never OLD~BOLD Pilots.
