  1. Well I think this engine has been through hell and back a couple times before it got to me and its time for an ej swap. My question is I am scared of wiring so is there someone that lives close to olympia area that if i got the engine in my car is there someone that could wire it for me? Maybe for a price. I don't have anything for the swap now but I'm trying to get a feeler for exactly what i need also.
  2. Yes the coil was plugged in and don't worry I'm not offended because I do let stupid things like that past me ALL the time. I had the timing belts on wrong... again I got it figured out an crank crank zoom. Had a stuck thermostat so water was not flowing got a new on now though. Now there is a couple electrical things to work out. One that puzzles me is I turn the switch to turn on the lights and in the first position everything works, when I turn to the second position to turn the lights on the dash lights turn off along with the tail lights turn off and only the driver side head light goes real dim the other one comes on fine. Then today when I was driving to work after driving for a mile or two everything turned on to normal??? Im thinking it is a ground somewhere but have not had the time to chase it down. Other than that Thank you again Mark for selling me this fine pice of machinery. I am now a Subaru driver and proud of it.:banana:
  3. Ok that kinda makes sense to me but not because I replaced the cap, rotor, and wires on my truck and when I was 180 out it would at least burp, grunt and spit. My subie aint doing nothing. I will find someone to help me and try that though.
  4. Well I got the timing belt on correct and it turns over better but still no fire. I can still smell gas and I messed with the dizzy and got it to what I think is right, I was by myself so I could not check for spark very easy. Other than that I am at the end of my knowledge. Is there something common or easy? I know enough about engines that it will be something easy. Some ideas of where to look would be great.
  5. Thanks maybe I should have searched that would have probably worked. On that note I just want to say thank you to everyone. I am used to pirate4x4 where they would have just told me to go drink bleach or something obscene like that. Ill keep everyone posted on my progress.
  6. So I got everything together put oil in it, water, battery, and took the coil wire off and cranked to get some oil pressure. Put the wire back on and crank and all we get is crank no fire. You can smell gas and we put a timing light on a spark plug wire to see if we got spark and we do. Next my stepdad got some eather to spray while I cranked and that is when we figured out that there was air being pushed out of the intake :-\ when I put on the timing belt the engine was at #1 tdc and the cams had that little hole at 12 o clock. like the book said. Am I missing something? Does it sound like I did something wrong. Gotta be something stupid. Any help greatly appreciated.
  7. Well finally I got my pack of 20 helicoils and got the heads torqued on and one cam on. now maybe tomorrow I can finish it up so I can drive it.
  8. wow thanks for all the info I do have all the 10 mm helicoils out and the 11m ones should be here tomorrow. im not sure if ill try stacking them because i am just going to be driving this car easy right now. Mainly to work and back I have an 88 ranger with a sas and 35s if I want to beat on something. In the near future there will be an ej swap happening and I think I might give it an overhaul before I put it in to make sure it will last for all I want to put it through.
  9. Thank you for the help. I found 11 1.25 on the napa web sight not sure how long they are something to look into.
  10. Thanks to markjw I am the proud new owner of an 88 wagon. As the ad said there was a blown head gasket and I was in the process of torqing the head back on when the dreaded happened. I stripped the threads:mad:. Ok so helicoils here I come. So I drill out the block with the proper bit, Tap the hole with the supplied tap and put in the helicoils. All should be good until We go to put in the bolts ant they will not go in. The helicoils we got were for a 10 1.25 witch seems to be right when you thread the bolt into the helicoil out of the block but when it is in the block they will not go in. Any help is appreciated. Im So proud to finally be a Subaru owner but I cant wait to be a Subaru driver.
  11. I don't have a subie now but will soon. My plan is to buy an EA wagon and swap in an EJ. I have always loves the EA wagons and just the sound of the engine. So I decided to sign up here to be able to talk with other Subaru fans.
