Well - I have to pass emissions and when the code comes on mileage drops considerably. What spacer? The drilled out anti-foul thing I read about?

Everyone's favorite code! Mine doesn't come on for a good 300 miles after reset but it does eventually come on So far I've done air filter (very dirty), plugs (.060 worn instead of .044) Next I'll do o2 sensors before surrendering to cat Here's my question. The dealer tested my o2 sensors and said they're cycling. Could they possibly still be bad or does that 100% exclude them? Thanks!! This is a 2000 Outback

My new outback's brakes are um - lacking. I understand the discs on the 01+ were bigger. Is it a simple retrofit or do calipers need to be somehow moved outward as well? Thank you!

Hi all. Still sorting out my 2000 Outback The steering does some clunking over bumps etc and I get a clunk when turnin the wheel left or right (just a slight clunk) If I grab either wheel - especially driver's side - I can replicate the clunk when pulling the wheel left-right with my hands What is this and how do I fix it? Thanks very much

lights blink slowly? yeah your siren is missing or connection is cut, and the alarm is ''SOUNDING" but you can't hear it To get the lights to stop flashing, or kill the alarm, turn your ignition on and hit the small button at the base of your dash on the far lower left. There should also be an ignition kill while this is happening, unless that has been disabled as well (it was on my 98) there are several connections that go into the black box - make sure they're all connected to get your locks working (a remote program procedure needs to occur as well - you can find it on cars101.com)

okay successfully fixed my heated seat switches! Radio shack only had one pair of bulbs, so I had to choose what to fix. Sadly - it seems I somehow broke the filament in BOTH indicator bulbs in the process - so now they light up at night, but don't indicate on-off....the opposite of what they used to do!

I went through this successfully with my '98 Legacy. do you have the black box to the left of the driver's leg when seated (may be tucked up in that area)? Also should have a small pushbutton mounted at the edge of the dash near your foot (tricky to find). This was a CodeAlarm system, and it did have a siren under the hood - not sure why you don't have one (maybe removed?) My dealer had cut the cables to mine because it seems he couldn't figure out how to make it work you can program the remotes yourself (for the second poster) and you can also turn the chirp on/off with a microswitch located on the black box itself (but you'd need the siren for it)

thanks! My FJ Cruiser has plenty of switches that weren't meant to light (add-on switches that fit in the knock-outs for subwoofer, locking rear diff, etc) - are the three switches in the Outback the same (the ones for heated windshield, cruise, fog lights)

I'm in the process of 'rejuvenating' the '00 Outback I picked up. As far as bulbs, I noticed: - the indicator bulb for the heated mirrors is out - the whole right side of the instrument cluster (temp gauge, tach, etc) is out - I'm assuming this is just one bulb - how hard is this to change? All switches on the left (fog lights, heated windshield, and cruise control) are out - are these meant to light? Thanks!

great thanks! yeah I'm going to do timing belt soon on my own - do I need tensioner as well? I bought the car for 975, so I'm not too concerned about value - I just was wondering what I can expect to get out of a fairly well-cared-for car...

sorry mileage mileage I know the 97-99 2.5 is more prone to problems than the 2000-2002, then even more reliable most 2002, correct?

Just wondering what I can expect out of my 2000 Outback's 2.5L? It's been well-maintained - just leaks a little at the oil pump, which I'll take care of when I do the timing belt. So - assuming average maintenance prior to my purchase, what is typical high mileage from a 2.5L? 350? I'm presently at 250k. I just changed the oil and it DRAMATICALLY quieted my piston slap in 25 degree weather - amazing difference. Car feels strong and runs well. Next change will be plugs, air filter, diff fluid, trans fluid

Check to make sure you Don't already have one first. There would be a siren under the hood and a small black box near the inside fuse box. My 98 legacy had one and all I had to do was buy the fobs and program them. Same with my 2000
