  1. Well I have to admit I don't know exact specifics about the '97 imprezza.

     

    I'm just letting you know what I've heard countless times from people who have attempted this or thought about it for all sorts of different cars. There are a lot of parts in the car made to work with the auto, you will probably need an entire new computer system which I would think would run in the thousands. Theres a lot of custom fabrication for brackets and mounts that you'd need to make as well.

     

    If you can find just 1 person who has done this I'd love to hear from them because everyone I know who has looked into converting an auto->stick has been amazed at how much harder and more expensive it is then you'd intuitively think.

     

     

    If you don't like an auto enough to consider all the work you might as well just sell it and buy a manual. I saw lots of Imprezza's here in Oregon with sticks when I was looking for my '97 legacy. Just my opinion.

  2. I think you'll want to sell the car and buy a new one with a manual. You'd probaly spend as much on the conversion as an entire '97 imprezza would go for.

     

    Seriously. Its very hard to convert from an auto to a stick, its really only worth it with rare cars that are really pricey and dont have sticks on the market. There is a lot more to do then just swap out the auto trans for manual.

  3. Well with my name you know whats on my mind even this time of year :D

     

    I would think a narrow rim would be ok as long as the offset was big enough so your brake calipers had enough room. I'd imagine a 1in or so narrower rim would be all you'd want to use, which would allow a pretty narrow tire. Remember though a narrower tire is going to give you less traction, braking, and cornering on the dry. But even with the stock rim width you could probably put a slightly narrower tire on. I'm not a tire expert, just kind of guessing here...

     

    I think I might throw some snow tires on my stock rims for my '97 GT then buy some new 17's in the summer. Why spend all the money on your '03 just to look at those ugly wheels half the year? You should be able to get 16" for under ~$100 a piece I'd think.

  4. I really aggre with that but how many people would let some one take there car and "test" it. I have a bad enouigh time letting my dad drive my SVX, ilet alone some one that would take it and do clutch drops to find the best 0-60 or 1/4.

    Yeah I guess thats a good point, never thought of that. Hmmm I guess just Dyno test and maybe roadholding skidpad test then. A Dyno would be more then most of those dumb mags do anyways.

     

    Ohh and I'm me who is Draco too btw.

  5. I think I'll put RL 75w90 in my rear diff and 75w90NS in my MT on my 97 legacy, but where is the best place to get the stuff? I live in Portland Oregon btw but might get it over the internet because I don't know of any place with it around here.

     

    I use Mobil 1 5w30 in the engine cause I can get that stuff everywhere.
