  1. I hear ya! When I'm driving down the freeway the damn thing is revving at like 4k the gearing is so damn low! Oh and I have a 97 Legacy GT (2.5MT), that gets about 23avg, up to 27, not that impressive.
  2. 12mpg? Wow thats not normal! I think you have some major problem, probably with the ecu or a sensor, maybe something else, who knows. I'd probably take it to a place and have them figure it out, maybe you can just do it yourself after you learn whats wrong. Man, that makes my 19-25mpg look awesome.
  3. Well I have to admit I don't know exact specifics about the '97 imprezza. I'm just letting you know what I've heard countless times from people who have attempted this or thought about it for all sorts of different cars. There are a lot of parts in the car made to work with the auto, you will probably need an entire new computer system which I would think would run in the thousands. Theres a lot of custom fabrication for brackets and mounts that you'd need to make as well. If you can find just 1 person who has done this I'd love to hear from them because everyone I know who has looked into converting an auto->stick has been amazed at how much harder and more expensive it is then you'd intuitively think. If you don't like an auto enough to consider all the work you might as well just sell it and buy a manual. I saw lots of Imprezza's here in Oregon with sticks when I was looking for my '97 legacy. Just my opinion.
  4. I think you'll want to sell the car and buy a new one with a manual. You'd probaly spend as much on the conversion as an entire '97 imprezza would go for. Seriously. Its very hard to convert from an auto to a stick, its really only worth it with rare cars that are really pricey and dont have sticks on the market. There is a lot more to do then just swap out the auto trans for manual.
  5. No the '96 and '97 2.5 had DOHC. (Phase I) It is not at all worth the effort to get 165hp, save your money for an '05 GT.
  6. Ok I got a 97 Legacy, I've read some posts that say your suppost to bleed from farthest to closest (RR, LR, RF, LF) and others that have some other wierd sequence your suppost to do, I can't remember what it was. Well what sequence should I do?
  7. Can you get them anywhere? The yellow is just YUCK! I haven't seen them on any websites. I'd like headlight and taillight ones if anyone knows where to get 'em. Thought I saw a picture of someone who had them before. Maybe a mod?
  8. Well with my name you know whats on my mind even this time of year I would think a narrow rim would be ok as long as the offset was big enough so your brake calipers had enough room. I'd imagine a 1in or so narrower rim would be all you'd want to use, which would allow a pretty narrow tire. Remember though a narrower tire is going to give you less traction, braking, and cornering on the dry. But even with the stock rim width you could probably put a slightly narrower tire on. I'm not a tire expert, just kind of guessing here... I think I might throw some snow tires on my stock rims for my '97 GT then buy some new 17's in the summer. Why spend all the money on your '03 just to look at those ugly wheels half the year? You should be able to get 16" for under ~$100 a piece I'd think.
  9. Yeah I guess thats a good point, never thought of that. Hmmm I guess just Dyno test and maybe roadholding skidpad test then. A Dyno would be more then most of those dumb mags do anyways. Ohh and I'm me who is Draco too btw.
  10. I've heard the subaru filter is just a purolator that works really well, well they have 2 types which one is best? I think the PureOne is more money but maybe its just a gimick! Purolator Website Both look ok to me... I was gonna pick up 5 or 6 on my next visit so I wanna decide which one to use.
  11. I think I'll put RL 75w90 in my rear diff and 75w90NS in my MT on my 97 legacy, but where is the best place to get the stuff? I live in Portland Oregon btw but might get it over the internet because I don't know of any place with it around here. I use Mobil 1 5w30 in the engine cause I can get that stuff everywhere. PS this board is pretty sweet glad if found it!
