  1. Montana Tom - thanks! So - is it a good idea to shift it down (for the sake of the tranny?) Or - doesn't it really matter if its downshifting all the time?
  2. This summer my son moved from Iowa to Glenwood Springs Colorado. He has a 2010 Impreza 2.5i (automatic tranny) and there are like a "gazillion" Subaru's in Colorado. We come from the "flat lands" of Iowa - so keep that in mind. When he travels between Denver and Glenwood - the car simply sounds like it is going to blow up. It seems vastly under powered and the transmission is constantly "kicking down" to a lower gear. Should we be looking at upgrading to a 3.6 vehicle? Like I said - I see a LOT of Subarus in Colorado and they can't all be 3.6's can they? And secondly - when he is driving in the mountains should he shift it down to the next lower gear? But if so - then isn't the motor going to be under constant high RPM strain? Thank you so much - I'm hoping to hear some feedback from Subaru guys that live in the mountains and maybe have the same 2.5i with an automatic. Roger
  3. Hi My son has a 2010 Impreza and was home from college for Thanksgiving. I went out to start his car to move it and when it started the RPM fluctuated wildly "by itself" for a few seconds. I tapped the gas pedal and it stopped - but I am not sure that it wasn't just a coincidence? I started it a few other times and it did not do it again. I called the local Subaru dealer --- and they thought it might have had gas left in the cylinders?? Has anybody had this happen? The weather has been about 60 during the day and getting down to 30 at night and I was wondering if this might have caused some confusion with an oxygen sensor or something? Thanks!!
  4. Brand new poster here. Hi Everyone.... Currently I have a 2008 Toyota 4 Runner with a V-8 (my 2nd 4 Runner) I am going to get a new vehicle this spring. I would LOVE to get a Tribeca -- BUT - I don't think it will handle pulling my 19 foot boat. My boat is a Larson (very well made and very heavy for a 19 footer) My Toyota has a V-8 with a towing package. Towing is rated at 7300# and even it Struggles pulling my fully loaded boat up and down the hills. The Subaru Tribeca of course is only available with a 6 cylinder. It is rated for towing at 2,000 pounds or 3500 pounds with the optional tranny cooler. Also I notice on the on line brochure they never even show the Tribeca towing ANYTHING. And the "optional" hitch looks pretty flimsy(in comparison to my 4 Runner). The boat weighs about 2900 pounds but this is just the boat. When we are going to the lake for vacation there is probably another 300 - 500 pounds loaded into the boat. I would like someone to tell me that the Tribeca would be just Great for boat towing -- but -- common sense tells me it just won't hack it.... I am also considering a Grand Cherokee and they are rated at 7,400 pounds. So the Tribeca - is really not even close to apples to apples. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
