  1. Yes that was what I was getting. One of the u-joint seals had deteriorated. If you haven't already, check your drive-shaft to make sure it is secure and all joints are in tact. Catch it early while it is an easy fix or else it will be a lot more painful.
  2. I just picked up a rear drive shaft from the salvage yard for my 89 gl wagon, the guy there said to drill 1/8" hole in the side of the u-joint, grease and seal w silicone and that it would last forever from there. Is this what you are referring to?
  3. Thanks for all the replies, I got it off and am ready to put new (used) one on. When I picked up the replacement shaft at the salvage yard the guy there told me to drill a 1/8" hole in the side of each u-joint, inject with grease, and seal with silicone and it should last a lot longer. Has anyone done this?
  4. Is this a pretty simple job if I wanted to replace it myself? I have limited mechanical experience.
  5. Thanks for all the help, it's still stuck where it stopped and I'm on my way to pick it up right now (probably tow it), but I also wanted to add that the dash lights still come on when the ignition is on, but not the dash clock, cigarette lighter, and radio, all the components that draw constant power from the battery, and I just sprayed some starter fluid into two of the cylinders and got no response from the engine.
  6. I was pulling out of a parking lot and all of a sudden the engine stopped, no sputtering out or any other sounds, it just went dead, and it still has battery power. Ive gotten suggestions that it may be a bad coil, are there any other possibilities?
  7. thanks for the help, it worked perfectly... The last time I tried installing a car stereo was on a 71 bus and it was pre-internet, this is so much nicer having message boards like this. That said, I am hoping to get some more advice. I thought I was finally finished and ready to enjoy my newly installed stereo, but right after I fixed that and re-mounted the stereo I heard a couple popping sounds out of my left front speaker and then it went dead. The other three speakers are working fine. I already tested the speaker and it's still working and the two front left speaker wires to the wiring harness are still in place, any suggestions what might (hopefully) be an easy fix?
  8. I just installed an aftermarket stereo and everything is working fine except I'm having trouble finding the constant power that keeps the clock and settings saved when the ignition is off. Ive tested for hot wires when the ignition is off but could'nt find anything and am wondering now if there is one and if I could possibly splice into something like the cigarette lighter to improvise. http://picplz.com/user/williams7777/pic/jhgj/
  9. Just got this car and am still figuring things out. The hissing starts up when i hit the off button for the fan, and it sound like its right behind the ac/heat console.
