  1. Thanks guy both my suby need belts and seals done just gonna have to wait till after xmass
  2. i have a 98 forester and the seals have been leaking for some time , 25k mi, does oil on the plastic timing gear or pulley make it weak and does a 98 and 99 forester have the same gears both 2.5, thanks
  3. thanks for the input guys, lookeed at that boxeer site that seams the way to go but i don't know how the gearing in the trans would work. The fuel milage is the big thing for me put about 25k on a year that is just for work, i have 2 suby's now 99 outback and 98 forester and 2 boys that are vw motorheads, we use my suby's for hunting and surf fishing on the east coast, i love to seethe look on people when u come rolling out on the beach with the suby.
  4. This is just a theory. If vanagons came through with TDI and i belive some did, and you can put a 2.5l in a vanagon then why not a tdi in a outback ?
  5. thank you all for the suggestions some i can use some others i cant. You see i like to surf fish and take the forester out on the beach, and it does an awsome job in the sand, and i also like the raised eyebrows from other surf fisherman with bigger 4wd. I have a 180 mi trip to the beach, one way that is , and take the forester out on the beach all day I'll get about 23 mpg, that with the drive to the beach on 95% highway, thats not bad cause driving in the sand is like draggin a full size pick up behind you on the road. I guess i struggle with the whole gas milage thing with any car, when we can send a craft to mars and control it from earth there is no reason a chevy suburban shouldnt get 50 mpg, it just big oil co. screwing the little guy.
  6. i have a 99 outback with a 2.5 and when i bought the car with 100k miles on it, i was getting 25 mpg steady.about a month after i had the car the check engine light came on and the milage went to 31 mpg i went to the subaru dealer and ask if this would lean out the fuel mix to much and burn up my motor, but the head mechanic said that the computer would never let the mix that lean, and he suggested i leave it that way untill inspection, which i did ,and the light went out about 3 weeks later and the milage went back to 25 mpg. bummer! I would sure like to know how to make it do that again, that was in 2005 and i have 240k on the car now.
  7. i have a 98 forester and a 99 outback both get 25 mpg any suggestions for better fuel milage
