  1. This could be done quite easily with a welder at your service.... The rear end and suspension for a 70's Vega would work very well underneath this car... The rear wheelbase is very close, and the 4 link suspension should match up well. All you would need to do is remove the entire rear suspension from the vega, and weld it into place under your brat. The tranny crossmember could come too, but I'd recommend using a Turbo 200 or 350 (instead of that HUGE TH400) the 350 should fit well in the trans tube. You would have to have the driveshaft custom cut, but that's not that expensive.... And as for mounting the engine, that's nothing a little ingenuity wouldn't fix (Weld V8 Vega/Monza frameplates in, and lengthen the motor mounts) These cars are close in size to the Chevy H-bodies, and I have done the V8 swap to those cars on several occasions. I think a V8 powered brat would be awesome, and maybe only 2-3 weeks of work, if you planned it out well and had all the measurements handy! Just my .02 Adam
  2. I'm not a subaru Guru, but I do know carbs... It sounds like your mixture is way off on that puppy.... You most likely have WAY too much fuel to air.... (causing the bogging, then catching up) As I said, I don't know much about the subaru carbs, but I'm sure the adjustment screws and suggested settings can be located somewhere else on this board.. Another thing you could check, is to hook a pressure gauge to the fuel line where it enters the carb. you should have at least 5psi with the key turned on (that would rule out fuel line/pump problems). Just increase your air screw, give her some more air, and she'll stop choking. Later, Adam
  3. Hello all, and I'd like to say thanks for the wealth of information I've already found here... I just purchased an `85 GL 4dr Hatch (Wagon?) with 250,000 miles on it, and it doesn't smoke, and pulls 90 with no problems what so ever. I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys... My plans for the pretty rusty car are to use it as a daily work car and grocery getter, but I can't do this in it's stock trim.... I'd like to put a lift kit on the car, maybe 4-6" and I'm planning on doing a Camoflage paint scheme.... Any info on bolt-on lift kits for these cars?? I've seen plenty of pictures of lifted sub's but, I can't seem to find a quick bolt on kit anywhere... THANKS! Later, Adam
