  1. wow thanks for all the advice.... especially in the technical parts of the forum, i see it can be a powerful tool if used for good so im thinking that my carb is NON feedback since i recently did the intake gaskets and all the little *************** coolant hoses that route around the carb and found no such rats nest of wires and sensors.... here is why i was thinking it needed the sensor. i had to take the beast through emissions this summer, a nightmare long story short i failed the first attempt and in washington state you can get a waiver to be passed if you have a certified shop do X ammount of dollars work trying to solve the problem so i paid some guys at what i understood to be a reputble shop, while not my subie shop of choice, to do an analysis and they came up with this bs problem of needing to run new wires for the o2 sensor for my "feedback carb". however they were dumbfounded and could not find any wiring or the ecu and ended up billing me basically for printing out the harness diagram for the ecu and telling me good luck.... yeah not worth $150. so i had 2 new cats installed, $400 and was able to recieve the waiver, and come pretty close to passing, but i worried that in a couple years when i have to go through again the o2 sensor problem is goning to bite me in the rump roast sorry to ramble, its just a really lame complicated story so will the webber carb perform a lot better than the stock hitachi? i have herd this but never really experienced it for myself... thanks again
  2. supposedly this is a feedback carb, but this is the 3rd engine in the car, and the last motor came from japan about 3 years ago... i have had trouble with other parts not matching up too, ie belts! if there is no ecu should there be no o2 sensor? the original cats had an sensor installed so i am asssuming that there should be one....
  3. I am lost and need a little assistance, and i know most of you will know exactly how to solve my problem! I am missing the wiring for my 02 sensor on an 86 gl wagon..... it has been ripped off of the sensor and is probobly burried under a lot of mud in a field somewhere. I put 2 new cats on last summer and would like to further remedy the emmission controls etc by fixing my 02 sensor. Does anyone know the typical routing for these wires? where is the ecu? how much information is really shared from the sensor to the carburator? My engine runs fine but i think a functioning sensor could improve my fuel econcmy and maybe give a bit more power? if someone knows i would be greatful!!! thanks champ
  4. how hard is it to transplany a 2.2 into a 1.8 car? does it require changing the tranny too? i suppose so, i can get a 93 legacy w/ blown AT for 500 bucks, with a good engine, is it worth the trouble? i could use the updated seats etc, but its hard to decide which body of car to keep the legacy or the 86 gl.... if so, how much would it cost to replace the legacy transmission? forget about it, the GL is way better! haha
  5. found this ad in the oregonian today... prob. someone on here but maybe not... how does it sound? a good deal? wagons are cooler too me but who knows, i allready have one of those... 91 LEGACY Turbo, AWD, 5 spd. Trick susp; perfrm brk prts, WRX intercooler, XB pop-off vlv, WRX rims & tires & more. $3500. RALLY READY.
  6. Can I replace a front plastic stlyle bumper with a chrome bumper off of an older model? mines an 86 and the donor is an 84... they look about the same and the mounts look simillar just wondering if anyone else has done it? thanks champ
  7. so i tired a few remedies, added "power punch" to up the viscosity of the oil, which seems like a nice product but didnt work... new filter ant 15-50 castrol high milage oil and a new pressure sending unit, guage reads better but valve train still rattles.... so today i took the beast, still under warranty on its engine replacment from last year in to the shop. about an hour later they call me back and assure me that the problem was a sticky lifter, and that they have solved it by using and additive and refreshing the oil!!! great! pick up the car drive up the freeway about 4 miles w/ ac on off ramp___ tick tick tick tick tick..... so its back at the shop to supprised mechanics.. who are usually good.. since its such a new rebuild i figured i better just let them mess with it, who knows..
  8. yeah! mine looks unlike any of those... and yet it should match... i think they took dl single headlights and mounted them in the place of the larger bulb.. if thats possible.. i'll have to put up a pic when the car gets home...
  9. Does anyone have a pic of what a 86 GL's headlights are supposed to look like? mine was wrecked and "repaired" before got it and was reassembled with out the headlight trim/bezzels or grill. I have since outfitted it with a legacy grill (i think) maybe its just a gl10 grill and some kindo of goofy plexi headlight covers... if anyone knows how it is supposed to look that would be awesome!!! champ
  10. nice! what a great resource!! good work man, thanks for the help! champ
  11. right on!! thanks for the warm welcome... the oil im currently using, on 1700 miles since change is Mobil 10-30 prob a little thin...i was advised to step up to straight 30 weight and call it good, but i would assume a little mystery oil would help too.. It is quite a project to change the pump on the overhead cam engine right? sounded super easy on a push rod model but looks a little itme consuming on this one.. better than ruining my engine right? thanks again champ
  12. So, I have an 86 GL wagon with the EA82 carburated engine, the engine is fairly young, the cars 3rd heart, with around 100k miles on the clock.... however from time to time, frequently when making freeway trips or any time there is a consistant high speed the oil pressure seems to drop and the cams begin to make rattling noises, the temp stays about the same. Is this typical? I've heard a lot of other rattling subs around town but it seems like im trashing my almost new engine... do i need a new oil pump? seals? heavier oil? a new WRX? who knows?? let me know before it blows up!!! thanks newbie subie
