  1. Hmm. I posted the exact same problem about a year or so ago. 2002 OBW 2.5-4. I still haven't found the cause, I thought when I replaced my headers that would do it, nope. I am scheduled for the 105K timing belt replacement, and what ever else. I haven't changed the belts, but they seem to look ok. I think that it may be a small exhaust leak where the headers join the cat. oh well, no other problems runs great 24mpg.
  2. I had the same with a 99 impreza, I taped 3 pennies so that they would engage the switch, and presto, cruise worked just fine. I also noticed the hole, that is where a rubber stop pad used to be, I'm sure I could order a new one, but the pennies are holding up just fine!
  3. finally found out what my noise was, it looks like i have a small crack in the left side of my exhaust header... Anyone else had any problems, I have 67k on the clock, i am a little disappointed, and hoping Subaru will fix it.
  4. check the O2 sensor, mine went at 30k and had similar problems. Even w/o a CEL. Good luck.
  5. Still have the noise, always above 3500rpm. could it be rear end bearings? all belts have been tightened. could it be a leak in the exhaust? I have modified the intake system so there are no silencers and it goes straight to the airbox. I guess it's time to take it to the mechanic. Thanks..
  6. ok. 2002 Outback. 55k on the odometer. when accelerating hard, a squealing noise is coming from what sounds like the rear end or from the engine bay. It only occurs above 4500 RPM when the engine is loaded. and usually not until I am in 3rd or 4th gear. So it is hard to pinpoint as I am driving. I tend to think belt, but the belts seem fine. Any Suggestions? thanks. Sean
  7. I change mine on a '02 Outback, although I would recommend good mechanics type gloves, and an open end wrench, I forget the size. You might have to run the engine to heat up the cats and expand the metal a bit... but it was real easy. unplug the wiring, unscrew the sensor, the new one should come with some loc-tite(ish) material on it already, screw it in and pluc it back in. and have someone reset the computer codes. good luck.
  8. that's about right, location can influence the price, in Seattle where I live 10-11k is the average price, I have seen as high as 13k, if they replace the clutch you're good to go I would think.
  9. My wife and I have a 99 OBS wagon, after 40k, we had to replace the clutch, there are lots of subarus where the clutch fails prematurely. We don't drive like grandmas, but the clutch was not abused. We replaced ours and it feels even better than stock, we used an aftermarket clutch kit.
