  1. There's a dipstick for that sucker? And I haven't been checking it? Holy s--t! And I thought I took good care of my vehicles. (Just bitch-slapped myself!)
  2. Where is the fill plug for the front differential on this machine? I've located the drain but can't find the fill. (And know by bitter experience not to drain the oil until you've determined you can get to and unscrew the fill !! Don't ask how I know this...!!) Second Q: Will it be necessary to use a pump to get the new oil in or is a gear oil bottle with a "squirt" tip sufficient? Thanks in advance. doc
  3. Thanks. I hope it's not that. However, why would the TC affect the brakes and lights? What's the connection?
  4. This is bizarre! When I depress the brake (automatic tranny) the headlights dim momentarily and the radio goes off for a few seconds. WTF??????
  5. Thanks, guys. The rear works, and I can hear it loud and clear. Front: nada! can't hear a thing. BTW, Cal, nice lookin' bike in your avatar. What is it?
  6. So, the thing worked. Now it doesn't. So, I figgered the most logical thing is to replace the pump. Bought one. Did it. Still no squirt. Soooo, gotta be in the switch, right? (Or the wires between the switch and the pump.) Anybody have any suggestions/experience with these? Ooops: '98 Legacy OB Red. The most trustworthy color.
  7. Thanks, all! Being a DIY-er I'll dive in and see what I can destroy! I had no idea these pumps were so interchangeable. It's been a long time since I did much work on cars. Most of my more recent experience has been with BMW motorcycles. Again, thanks for the input. Seems like a pretty nice group of folks on this board. doc
  8. Windshield washer not working. Checked the fuses -- all OK. 1. Where IS the pump? I can't locate it. 2. What's the most likely cause of failure? The pump itself or is there something else? Is the pump repairable or do I need to find a replacement? Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks, Dave! I did do those searches but didn't come up with much. I've got the Haynes Manual on order but it hasn't come yet. I'll do some serious poking around in that when I get it.
  10. Thanks, folks. Burnt oil? Yup, got it. Now, I have to figure out what a baffle plate is.... torque bind? Sounds like something veterinarians deal with. I'll check that out, too.
  11. Howdy! Just bought a cherry '98 Legacy Outback. It's obviously been treated well and doesn't look its 177K miles. I believe it is pretty much stock. I don't have service records. My questions: what should I look out for on this vehicle? Weak points? Concerns? I'm not interested in souping it up but practical mods that aren't too spendy would be considered. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, oh wise ones!
