i'v had a noise like that in 2 different subs w/ 66k & 80k 2.5s,cured them both new cam belt tentioner.?

on my 1980 gl the button on the dash says passing light.I am missing the door but it does operate. I have a complete set up for a different year but the door is smallerAfter reading some threads about the "third eye" headlight on older soobs...I'm curious. What was that actually intended for?I've heard it was a passing light, and a fog/driving light.
I think they're kinda cool and have a certain James Bondish thing going on.
I wish mine had one.

I've had my 03 beanmobile4 months pulled a light trailer w/a harley on and got 26mpg doing 75-80 using premium gas only once.most of the time I use reg. I don't notice any diff. I think it gets better milage than my 99 impreza 5 speed stick..??
I drive an '03 Outback VDC. I average about 25mpg driving highway and city about 50/50. Like Cookie said, the downside is the cost of premium gas. I can only get 91 in Colorado Springs. Don't know if 93 would make a difference! -
the problem is @ 50+mph going from 3rd into drive. may be I wasn't clear. is that the problem you had. thanx for reply

The manual instructs how. I'll give it a try .What about not going into drive? it just started acting up I want to catch it early if I can.Thanks for the help.

I have a 98 forester awd 62k, new fluid(cheap stuff) changed it because it smelled burnt,also filter, so i got 6 qts out.It shifts slow from 2nd to 3rd tac.drops slowly from around 3300? to 22000? maby1.5 secounds also it has started to not shift,or delay to drive, it started when very cold now it does it now & then. Any advice? better fluid for sure! band adjustment?

HAPPY DAY i found the problem.i noticed earlier there was a bent bolt/stud in center of tranny cross member,didn't think too much of it. i said before it ia a repairable,hit rite ft.,hard enough to bend that safty stud in tranny mt.and was up against metal transfering every vibration & sound to cross member on into whole body, i think this one is for the books but not your average case, thanx for your help this is a great sounding board, BUGITEcheck your driveshaft, the ujoints in particular.pull it off and make sure the u-joints all feel loose and not lumpy or even frozen.

this thing makes the same sound @all speeds, i went through each gear 1st speed up, no noise under load, untill it got up to speed & deceleration worse.2nd the same & so on,worse noise @ shifts but i'll check them tomorrow. thanx againcheck your driveshaft, the ujoints in particular.pull it off and make sure the u-joints all feel loose and not lumpy or even frozen.

well here's the skinny(any body still use that term?)changed all fluids, rt ft cv shaft,(felt good but changed it anyway,to be safe).checked drive line. still makes growling noise in all gears as soon as you get up to speed.under load no noise,much worse on deceleration,&during shifts .parked it seens to have a viberation when reved.is it time to look for tranny?whats best thing to do.thanx againdid you check fluids - trans and diff fluids?is it FWD, 4WD or AWD? if it's AWD i think you want to match the tires. if it's 4WD, makes sure it's not in 4WD.

how do you know it's the transmission and not the differential or wheel bearing or drive shaft (if it's 4WD or AWD)?

reply here?? automatic AWL i think, its a forester S (98) when I bought it i had been hit on rt ft corner, need lower A frame,fender head lite etc. ?i droped all fluids today trany was a little burnt& a small amount of metal flakes & grafite as to be expected the diff's look good,but a did discover what i think as a lose rt side cv i'm in the prosses of pulling right now.i always thought a cv would make a clicking sound on hard turns?not true? i'll be back in a couple hrs,thanx bugitedid you check fluids - trans and diff fluids?is it FWD, 4WD or AWD? if it's AWD i think you want to match the tires. if it's 4WD, makes sure it's not in 4WD.

I'm just getting this repairable on the road,took it for a test ride yesterday & the trany seens to make a lot of growling noise when it shifts & esp.on deceleration also a high pitched whining noise.it seens to be less on excelleration,note:all tires don't match rt ft is33 or 38 dont rember "s but 33 1/2 lf 1/4 & rear match @even 33, please help

I have a 98 forester hit in rt ft corner,I couldn't pass it up.body work is going good but my problem is the flashers come on as soon as I conect the battery.I've checked the wires for shorts in the front,pulled the flashers units under dash,heard the computer box ticking.any one have ideas about this I would sure appreicate the help,thanx

if the noise goes away in 30 sec. or so my guess is (cam belt tentioner).had 2 like that.
