  1. thanks.. dont really want more power.. just want to know if i can get parts from the scrapyerd if necessary:) o2 sensor.. theres no plug/bung/threaded piece for it in the exhaust anywhere... in the u.k. we werent running exclusively on unleaded back in '90.. so no cat converter either!.. leaded was pretty much 99% phased out about 4 years ago... as i say there are wires on the loom that just "end".. looking at manuals i have seen they seem to come from relevant places on the ecu... s'pose i just check the error codes and see if it comes up with o2 sensor?!... wonder if all the u.k. models of this era ran with error codes as standard?!... hmmmnnn...
  2. hello there.. my '90 ej2.2 legacy runs quite well now.. thanks to help from people on here:).. however i have a few more questions... i)im in the u.k. and the car is a 90-91 model.. theres no provision for an 02 sensor on the exhuast.. however the harness "seems" to have some spare black and white wires that look as though they could go to one... would it be possible to retro fit the sensor?... and more importantly.. would it be worth it?!... would it increase/decrease power or drivabilty?! ii)what items can be taken from later legacies/imprezza's to fit earlier models?!.. basically im talking about ej motors... coil amp?, coil pack?, crank sensor? cam sensor? TPS? for example...can i put a manifold, coil pack and TPS from a 96 2.0 legacy on a 90 2.2 legacy?!... thanks for any help...
  3. interesting! thanks for the reply skip... didnt think of it like that... still, if the egt sensor is supposed to be in the exhaust.. its not there now? hmmmn.. i know you can buy exhaust for the early legacies over here in "catalytic" and "non catalytic converter" style... will try and do some research... not going to be easy! this is probably the best forum for all round subaru tech stuff.. the ones over here concentrate on car with over 250hp... 90% of the time imprezza's... i dont own an exceedingly expensive imprezza and i dont want expensive mods... (hmmmn yet!..) i just want my car to go! thanks for the help though..
  4. me again with more problems:confused: well questions really... cars running fine now after the fuel problem... its a 90/91 2.2 legacy awd auto gx However... it doesnt seem to have an O2/lambda whatever sensor on the exhaust... do all the subarus have this? or are there a few early ones that dont use it... looked briefly at a wiring diagram for the ecu... has alook in the car also, there seems to be some white and black wires wrapped in a grey sheath that *might* be something to do with an O2 sensor but they are not connected to anything... there is no plug/nut/boss welded into the exhaust to take the sensor either.. i am a little confused as the car seems to run fine?!.. am i destroying the car by running it like this?... how do i go about putting the sensor in?..weld a nut onto the exhaust and extend the wires to suit?... does anyone have an accurate wiring diagram that i can check?.. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated..
  5. fixed it! seems to be a slightly kinked fuel line and the filter... rerouted the fuel line with a new piece and installed another fuel filter... everythings good now... thanks for your help and suggestions everyone, much appreciated..
  6. ARRGH! update.. put some more fuel in it.. disconnected the fueline to the injectors etc... put hose on it going into a jar.. turned on the ignition 4-5 times.. can hear the pump going.. barely a dribble if that coming out.. it should shoot across the room, no?! or fill the small jar pretty quick.. if the pumps working properly, and i followed the direction written on the filter to install it the correct way round.. whats happened?.. crap in the bottom of the tank clogging the filter? just a bad filter?... im assuming the filters clogged and will try and replace it tomorrow...more money:( it did work fine and revved fine for about 10 mins... switched off... came back 5 mins later, then all the trouble... again.. arrgh! thanks for all your help so far...
  7. i put the new filter and pump in... bled the brakes, did a few other non engine things... connected everything back up.. started her up... seemed fine... had one small hiccup, restarted, and then o.k. again... revved it briefly, seemed o.k.... rolled it forward out of the garage to re-park it more "centrally"... tried to reverse and it wont move itself under load.. i.e. exhibiting the problems in my first post.. havent attempted any fixes yet... any other ideas?!... where should id go from here? should i test the filter and/or pump?!... how?.. or just put some new petrol in?!..
  8. gentlemen... right on the money!! just put a new fuel pump and filter in!!! why is this happening? what should i do next?!... goddamn you guys are good!
  9. 90 legacy 2.2... engine starts pretty well... as soon as you put your foot on the gas, it revs to about 15-1700 then tries to die.. after a while it doesnt even try to rev.. keep trying for a few minutes and it wont even start... i left it for a few minutes again and it will now start...but it just repeats the above procedure.. drove it out of the garage now it wont go back in!... its gonna roll down the slope!:-\ Help please!
  10. things seem to be going well at the moment.. thanks for all your help so far.. cars running pretty good:) However, dont know what temp the fan should kick in... have run it a bit in cool weather.. and nothings happening... the car hasnt been run for some time... is there anything i can check?... i presume its ECU controlled?... what temp should it start up at?... thanks again..
  11. thanks guys... Mr 777 whre do you get all these fabulous pictures from?! makes things alot clearer:) BTW i need the small, single wire one;) much appreciated..
  12. for the water temp gauge located on the engine?... i know its 1/8" NPT thread, ive been told its at the back left of the engine.. but i cant see it?!.. anyone got a picture?... do you have to take the inlet manifold off to get at it or something?!... cheers:)
  13. found where the hose went... got it reconnected... undid the battery terminal to reset the ecu... fiddled with some other bits and bobs for 30 mins.. connected it all back up... it starts and idles real good now!... much better..thanks for your help everyone..
