  1. I've owned it since new. That rear wheel bearing has been replaced twice since new though...hmmmm... Never been wrecked, 265,000 miles original everything except put an Imprezza's 2.5 in it at 235,000 when the original went bad due to valve guide migration. I'll check the diff mounting hardware next time I can put it on a lift - at 265K I'm going to replace the diff, driveshaft, and 5 speed tranny (2nd and occasionally 3rd gear synchs going) in one shot as the engine only has 145K and the body is remarkably rust free.
  2. My 2008 Forester and I took a hard right turn a few days ago when the outside temperature was about minus forever up here in Vermont. The left rear axle popped out of the differential. We put it on a lift and shoved it back in, and its been fine since. Could extreme cold have locked the c-clip in a compressed position somehow, or...? I'm at a loss to explain system-failure-to-system-heal-thyself situations.
  3. Thanks - I want to go through every sub-system and start building out a true Vermont war wagon. At 152,000, though, when the clutch gets replaced I'm going to toss this engine and put in a lower mileage one.
  4. I live in Vermont and my 2008 Forester needs new struts, I think, and ride height here is critical due to how bad our roads are. I've got 152,000 on my '08 Subie Forester. Is there a source other than Subaru to replace the struts and springs at all corners? Any other suggested mods and sources are appreciated - its close to paid off, and I love it, and want to start the improvements with each part out/in now.
  5. Yeah, I took the instrument panel apart - pretty easy. Found one blasted bulb, replaced, all good. Will pull the wiper motor in back and see what happened. I'll assume all Subaru rear wiper motors must be the same - I'll continue to cannibalize the Outback.
  6. Had a nasty electrical weekend with my 2008 Forester. The alternator fried, and my fuel gauge bulb burned out and my rear wiper motor did at the same time. (Well, I can't find a fuse for the rear motor...ideas?) Subaru says there are 2 different bulbs for the fuel gauge, yet when I pulled them they are all marked V-2 Toshiba. Questions: 1. Are there really two different bulbs? 2. What fuse, fusible link, or relay controls the rear wiper motor?
