  1. Richard, Thanks for your reply. The car does have an automatic tranmission and now it has an automatic tranmission computer installed so the two of them should be able to communicate correctly. I've changed the crank sprocket (which is different in the M/T engine) to the A/T type. Some models had a different cam sprocket but I believe this engine had no difference between the two(ATor MT) We are going to take the cam sprocket off to check it and also check to make sure the A/T computer is working properly. And how do i solve it? PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you!
  2. You misunderstud it stoped starting when i put the automatic tranny computer in and it just throws two codes about the cam angle sensor range performance problem. so it has some thing to do with the timing system...some one help i need a fix!
  3. I have a 2.5 SOHC engine from a M/T 2001 Legacy wagon in my 2000 A/T Legacy sedan. I inherited this mess from an ebay seller who had it running(poorly) with a M/T engine computer installed. After I replaced the check engine light bulb (which they apparently pulled) it threw many codes. I put a A/T computer in but it will not start. I changed the crank shaft pully(which is different in the manual transmission) with the A/T version but still no start. It continues to throw the P0340 code which is a cam shaft failure. I've replaced that sensor and checked continuity and everything checks out OK. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreaciated!!!!!
  4. Thanks sea#3!!! I'm beginning to see some light at the end of this mess. You know more about this situation than the local Subaru tecks, that's for sure. I've ordered the crank sprocket for the AT and I was able to find the vin# for the 2000 legacy wagon that my engine came from. If the cam sprocket is different for AT then I'll order that one as well. I'll put them in and use the AT ecm and I'm assuming (hoping) it will start. Then there may be some other sensors that still won't be correct but I'll just have to deal with them as they arise. Thanks again. JK
  5. I would be doing the work... i have alot of mechaical experence so opening it up soundnt be a prob but where can i find new gears?
  6. Hi I have had a 93 subaru legacy wagon that i have tuned a little... 126,000 miles and i dive her VERY hard... I noticed a while ago that when i put it in first when im moving my gears grind and some times when i power shift in to 2nd there is a very quick grinding noise.... Im pretty shure its that sincros that are done... are there any fixes besides replacing the tranny? any suggustions would be appresiated
  7. On any subaru pre 96 you can check the code your self by locating the green wiring harness under the drivers side dash. Just plug it in turn the car to the on position and count the flashes.
  8. The problem with that is that we dont have access to the origninal motor. Are you sure the cam gears are diffrent? I know the crank gear has diffrent markings on the back but does it have a diffrent number of teeth? I ask because I went to subaru parts department the other day and started asking about the gears and they said that they are the same in a manual and an automatic..... Please help!
  9. Thanks for your reply ferret. The engine in my AT Legacy sedan is actually from a 2000 MT Legacy wagon. It is the SOHC engine. I just replaced the timing belt yesterday, thinking perhaps the belt had slipped, but still no start. I've tried both the MT ECM that came with the car when I bought it, and a AT ECM. The MT EMC run poorly throwing a bunch of codes like 1133,1139,0107, and others. When I put the AT ECM in it gave me the 0340 without even starting. I put the MT ECM back in and still no start with no codes. I wondering if it is even possible to use and MT engine in a AT car with the varations in the ECM's ????
  10. Thanks for your reply. I replaced the timing belt yesterday but it still won't start. I'll check the valve timing though. Another concern I have about this "bad boy" is the fact that I discovered that the engine that is in my legacy sedan AT is from a 2000 wagan with MT. I had a MT ECM in the car that was throwing several codes and running poorly. I got a AT ECM and put that in only to end up with the no start situation I'm now in. I put the old MT ECM back in but still no start. I'm wondering if the MT engine will ever be compatible with the AT car that if is in now ???
  11. My 2000 Legacy sedan won't start and is throwing check engine code P0340 which is cam sensor malfunction. I've checked the wiring and replaced the cam sensor but the problem pursists. Any thoughts or suggestions??? Thanks.
