  1. hey all, recently finished rebuilding a 32/36 DGAV (converted to EV) and am getting ready for install but have a plumbing question. is there a H20 line to the Weber that needs to be tapped/threaded to complete installation? If so, from where to where? does anyone have a FOTO of a proper finished install that I could take a peek at? I have read Cameron's page and still have some Qs identifiying some bits...... muchas gracias!! shanonsf
  2. cool but what's a pin socket tool.......? shanonsf
  3. Russ you've got mail............. shanonsf
  4. !!! HEy Russ- let's make a deal!! let's figure something out soon!! I'd really like to see your RX too! I'll call you over the weekend........... -shanonsf
  5. hhhmmm, I went to a Kragen/Napa and they quoted me a similar $$ for the bearring......'bout 3x the price for an ol' EA81........ are they that different? or COULD I take the control arm/bearring assembly to a shop and have them match & install it..?? thx shanonsf
  6. hey there- can anybody out there give me a labor figure on how much a RX rear stub axle bearing should cost to have pressed in? rear control arm is out of car, RX bearring gonna cost $110.... dealer quoted me 2hrs labor at $140................eh?! thx shanonsf PS: anybody got a good RX rear bearring they wanna part with??
  7. hey there- i'm in for some loot too. i missed out on the 1st batch.......... shanonsf
  8. thx for the reply GD, not a 4wheeler/crawler, more of a rally set up. can anyone recomend a source for clutch kits and flywheels. I think I'm looking for a 88 XT setup. thx shanonsf 82 GLW (manipulated)
  9. hey all, my 4spd D/R clutch is starting to slip and I am contemplating putting in my 5spd D/R set up now. I have been reading the archives and I am curious about Jerry's Kit. He still making them?? What exactly is it? I am doing this to an 82 GLW w/ a 4spd DR, I have the 5spd D/R w/ ctr dif, 3.7 LSD, drive shaft, trailing arms from an RX will ea81 CV shafts work (spline issues?) any advice appreciated about tunnel clearance, cables, pedals. thx shanonsf
  10. thx GD- i think the cable might be tight...what kinda milage should a clutch get? am I correct with my vacuum line ideas? thx again shanonsf
  11. hey all- 2 questions for a 82 glw ea81 1) my clutch seems to be slippin' between 2-3. Recently rebuilt brake system (disc conv.) Is there a connection between the brake and clutch? Clutch is relatively new. Does the clutch need bleeding too? 2) put a neato/silly chrome round air cleaner on and now have a bunch of extra hoses and lines. Which need to breathe and which need to be plugged? I figure the valve cover hoses can get breathers (4 total) and the vacuum lines get plugged. there is only one line that seems to effect (raise) the idle when capped w/ finger. the small new air cleaner was $12 from a local hot rod shop and I fab'd/butchered an ol' air pan (made a disc plate), looks great and gives great access to surrounding bits. even make a slight snarl sound, performance seems better?! now to get rid of all those extra hoses! shanonsf 82 GLW (manipulated)
  12. thx all, but this is what i need to know, how reliable is the set up....? with the chokes, is there a difference in cold weather starting & warm up compared to the hitachi? basically if it's a pain in the *ss to get started & warm up, I have a problem justifying it. I'm looking to do this conversion for an event (GPS rally in N. AZ) which is at 6k ft+ and most likely will have snow on the ground. don't wan't to be on the start ramp stalling out, wanna do good for us 'classic sube' enthusiasts... rally on shanonsf 82 GLW - modified
  13. hey all, got a weber 32/36 DGAV on the bench awaiting a rebuild and install......but is it the DGAV (water choke) or DGEV (electric choke) for the EA81 (82 GLW) pls respond ASAP before I spend the enregy in the wrong direction tomorrow..... thx all!! shanonsf 82 GLW
  14. RR- relatively soon. gotta swap a family rig in Monterey this weekend may leave Friday afternoon cause Pierce is closed on weekends. Got logistical/family challenges right now, when resolved will contact ya the event's a blast, coinsides and is on the same course as Pro Rally............some seriously fast stages, wide open, graded wide roads, a course worker said a broke 110mph in his WRX getting to his post with snow on the ground...............i was doing almost 90 in the X in 2wd....i think the Open class breaks 130mph...... stages are closed and there are no cops..........!!!!! gumball the wagon should be fun in the tighter sections w/out the stress off wrecking a new car............ shanonsf
  15. hey russ- yeah- i know that that real tires throws you into the open class.... would you do the 165s or 195s for the 13"......?? smaller wheels are torquier right? planning a trip to your neck of the woods soon, heading to pierce manifolds (gilroy) for some weber stuff .... here's an upcoming event, http://www.rallyusa.com/adv_general.html did it 2001 w/ our xterra, now wanna run my wagon this year, very fun! rally on shanonsf
  16. here are the sizes for the 14" 175/65QR14 = $78 185/65QR14 = $80 much of a difference for $2?? these will be a dedicated wheel set for gravel/off road mischief will be doing some rally cross next season..... shanonsf
  17. hi gang- Q- I have two full sets of wheels (5 ea), 13" jackmans & 14" Pugs alloys if your were going to get some rally tires (Kuhmo Ecsta R700) which wheel set would you get them for?? what size?? rally on! Shanonsf 82 GLW (modified)
  18. the car is an ex-factory/dealer rally car. has full cage campaigned constantly by the previous owner who sold it 1-2 years ago. he was an avid rallyist in the PNW, his name ecapes me. he got an newer project (RS or wrx ride) and sold this one. The wheels are Panasports!!!!! this car should be saved, driven & campaigned!! shanonsf
  19. hey there... does that mean i need EA82 vented disc set as upposed to a EA81 vented disc set........are the hubs different?? shanonsf
  20. thx for the info- so is the only difference the splines count...? got a science project going on and need to know if my tranny, axles, hubs and brakes are going to work before surgery... shanonsf
  21. hey all, is there a difference on the RX front disc brake set-up and other sube vented front disc & calipers.........hub diameter?? shanonsf
  22. hey there- rear sway bars came on some RXs & XTs (maybe some others, anyone know for sure). the welded mounts on the rear arms are what's critical. or a welder... shanonsf
  23. hhhmmm, should I too consider converting the system to 3.9 instead of 3.7 before install? big difference? what's the scope of the conversion? quickness/torqueniess is very appealing for my rally X aspirations.......... what type of top end sacrifice will I be making.....? bla bla bla shanonsf 82 GLW (losta mods)
  24. hey all- I do have the vacuum unit (working?!)from the doner project and an RX ctr Dif switch (very neato, I'll be just like the new STIs) and the schematic diagram.........just have to learn to read the bugger. it's sounding simpler all the time. seems like I'll be giving up a Lil' Low Range 4wd capabilitiy but w/ the ctr dif lock it seems to even out.......?! just might have to complete this science project a bit sooner I'll keep ya posted shanonsf 82 GLW (losta mods)
  25. I think i need to take a ride in an RX hey RallyRuss:wave: ...anyone ha ha ha shanonsf
