  1. they did not replace them when i went in to the subaru dealer for a big overhaul, what do they do and could they prove to be detrimental to my car down the road?
  2. I have a 97 obw 5spd and i was wondering what the longevity is on average for these things, i am just about dropping 4 grand on a major overhaul on my ru from head gaskets to cluch to everthing inbetween and i was wondering what if anything could go next if anything? it has 117 k and is overall a clean car driven by a grandpa so i mean other than the head gasket subarus are known for being pretty relable all around with proper maintaince right?? fyi carlsen subaru redwood city ca is doing the head gaskets, water pump , some belts and or pullies( not to sure whats what) , all clutch related components, new plugs and a myrid of other small things
  3. ouch car overheating like mad and did everything under the sun but fix the head gaskets, subaru took one look and determined that it was the head gaskets and now its gonna cost 2400$ to get it fixed. i was going to ask in regards to loosing heat from the heater is this a direct result of blown head gaskets? also does subaru warentee their work thanks
  4. how much did that all cost if u dont mind me asking
  5. anyone know a good place to get my subaru fixed in the bay area?? anyone soemone would reccomend because i am in the dark here and how much would a head gasket repair be on average Also considering i get horrid gas mileage should i have him look at the oxy sensor as a possilbe culprate and how much of a difference(mileage wise) would it be for those denso irridum plugs vs the cheapo bosch super, basicly new coil, plugs, wires, new oxy sensor would help the gas mileage a bunch i am guessing?? as it stands i get about 200 miles out of a full tank in normal city 80% and highway driving %20 thats driving with a light light foot
  6. OK here is a rundown of my problem.... Was driving today and the car overheated, poped the hood and radiator fluid splashed everywhere, felt the manifold?? not hot just barley warm, checked the overflow and it was pretty full and the anti freeze was darn near cold, noticed that it smelt like oil so i proceeded to pop the radiator cap and a little anti freeze came out but not much, check the anti freeze (in the radiator) luke warm at best... all the sudden the darn manifold??? and engine heats up in front of me as soon as i poped the radiator cap? no clue whats wrong but i also noticed that when i drive i get such horrible gas mileage like when i am at 1/4 tank i drive 10 miles i waste half that 1/4 tank (this is driving par subarus reccomended shiift rpms in the manual). Oh well i cant think of anything else but maybe someone could shed a little light before i am forced to take it to *gasp* subaru and get stuck with one hellava bill. cheers thanks a bunch
  7. ya plus subarus are a blast to drive so its harder to contain your urge to speed
  8. i have a 97 outback 5spd and i was wondering if one or both fans should be spinning all the time? Or is it supposed to be one all the time and than the other kicks on for backup when the engine gets mega hot? thanks, i mean its not overheating or anything but for piece of mind i am kinda wondering thx
  9. yes, great points. how much should i expect out of a full tank of gas? 300 miles?
  10. anyone want a tape player , its in almost flawless conditon all u need to do is pay shippiing. cheers
  11. How is the gas mileage on yalls 2.5L's? its a 97 outback with a 5spd, driving consertively and i have been less than impressed. i have heard the gas mileage is medocre but i will admit i think the 2.5L has more than enough power for real world driving situations and overall i love the outback! than again i am coming from a ford f-350 where i was getting 4 miles a gallon
  12. I will finally be able to check out the colorado rockies, grand canyon, ect and really explore the usa! my old 1995 f350 got about 6 mpg ! how large is the gas tank? 14 gallons or so?
  13. I just purchased a 1997 Subaru Outback off ebay... I know it maybe sound risky but when it arrives what are some things i should check out? The dealer said its pretty much good to go, everything works , runs great, nothing wrong what so ever at all just put gas in and go. But for my own piece of mind I was thinking oil change, tranny flush, new filters, wires, plugs, ect. the basics but if anyone here has any input i would love to hear it! Also this is more a stupid question but what does the stock radio setup sound like, i think its 6 speakers? either way i ordered an aftermarket kenwood excelon cd/mp3 player, do you think that would improve the sound quality and or the volume of the sound? Also with 117k on the car what do you think the longevity of the engine and tranny would be(under normal driving conditions NO RALLY RACING ), i heard subarus run up into the 200k no problem thanks a lot
