  1. So heres the deal.  I aquired a 1997 Legacy with a 2.2 that has bad rings.  So I figure I will do the 2.5/2.2 setup.  I've searched around and I guess I'm not finding the answers I want, what I would like to know is what 2.5 bottom end should I use?  Do I need a DOHC block, or can i use a SOHC block?  Does it matter one way or the other?  I also remember seeing something about different sized oil pumps, as far as volume.  Also which headgasket does this require? Just an OEM 2.5 one?  This legacy is a 5-speed, which clutch/flywheel setup can I use?  Thanks for any info.

  2. Dealer was probably selling a compressor because they diagnosed it wrong. Looking at A/C gauges you don't want to see vacuum on the low side when its running. In fact there should be a low pressure cut out switch located on your receiver/dryer (should be by the pass. side strut tower below the horn) that cuts power to the compressor before it can pull vac on the low side. The reason it was able to pull vac when running was due to the faulty expansion valve.

  3. The purge solenoid should have about 40 ohms, and shouldn't be able to blow through the ports when not activated. I had 5 codes stored in my 90 Loyale with one of them being a purge solenoid code. Mine was open and it let vacuum through it. I had a similar one lying around and wired it up to the harness. Cleared the computer and haven't had the light return, been about a month. Although I didn't have driveability issues, the light just bugged me.

  4. Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what color the wires are on the "check connector" for the check engine lamp unter the dash. Theres a bunch of white & black connectors under there but they all have female treminals. Or maybe a picture of said commector and there it should be located?

    thanks
