Well folks its come to that point in my sube obsession.... my trustworthy '88 DL that i JUST resurected from a bad timing belt is about to go to the big Subaru showroom in the sky....think i blew it up but good when she over heated.....have a few decent parts on her....an i will be posting it on http://reno.craigslist.org some time after next weekend...need to get all my stuff out of her....i will be asking $500 for it....if ya all want first crack at it PM me...for now my sube days are done....Untill i find another one i want Thanks for all the info and advice and keep those sube's going.... Well the great news is that she passes smog tonight :banana: :banana: now to sneak into work and pop off to dmv tomorrow and its all good oh and to hijack my own thread ..... i was the timing being off that caused it to die origionally ..... THANKS MILES FOX for the write up on the belt replacement ! :banana: :banana: :banana: First tank of gas thru her after the old was burned out.....29.8 MPG !!!!!

  4. Hey all need help ASAP! have to get my 88 DL smogged today and the CEL is on checked the codes and came up with this: 45 Kick-Down (Detent) Relay or Circuit HELP i need to figure out what this refers too.
  5. ok got the timing belts replaced....and they are aligned properly .... is there anything i need to do to the dist.? if so how and what ? thanks
  6. Ok i got that much but there are 3 lines lll on the flywheel....is the far left one l l l for the passanger side cam? and the l l l for the drivers side ? thanks
  7. Hey all am back in sube land again:banana: and i am trying to resurect my 88 DL. She just up and quit on me at about 60 mph about a year ago and has sat basically ever since....when i got it off the freeway and tried to start it up it would run but extremely badly like it was only running on 2 cylinders....had her towed home and there she sat till yesterday....got the fabled wild hair you know where and decied with the high price of gas i needed it back on the road....so i put a fresh battery in her and started troubleshooting it....it has plenty of fuel pressure, but no spark....i popped off the timing belt covers and found the driver side belt extremely loose and cracked....time to replace passanger side looks like brand new....was reading the write up on miles fox's site (great site btw miles ) and had a question regarding the inital timing set.....it talks about lining the 3 lines up on the flywheel with the notch....exactly which of the 3 lines do you start with....put mine on the middle until the rain chased me off....so am i off in the right direction ? thanks guys and gals sporta:cool:

On my 88 DL with the auto trans, i just pulled the black rubber boot on the flywheel and cranked the motor by hand till i got to the notch and jammed a good screwdriver (flathead) in and the pulley came off really easy. Thanks again to all who responded to me the repair went really rather smothe was just diffucult cause i had never done that before on a subby Steve

  11. Glenn, I deffinately know that my DL will never be a power house, but, when you floor it to get going ther is a delay b4 moving will check the main filter for replacement date tune up was bout 9 months ago with cap wires and roter... thanks Steve
  12. Hello all Been a while since i have been on these boards, but now i need a question answered. I have a 88 DL fwd EA82 that has about 195k on the motor and it will not get out of its own way from a stop sign/light. when you press on the gas there is a massive amount of hesitation.....almost like it is starving for fuel...if you sorta pump the accelerator, it will start off slow and then pick up.....ok here is the question: Could the above symptons be a sign of poor fuel pressure? meaning failing or bad pump ? or is it an injector problem ? or filter someplace in the system? :-\ any ideas where to start ? Thanks Steve
