  1. Turanza's are excellent tires, I think Bridgestone's best. A perfect tire that is quiet and comfortable with decent handling. I drove these on my aunt's Mercedes S500. If you don't like them you get a full 30 day satisfaction period, you pay a bit more than others for them but in the end they are well worth it. Don't even compare to Potenza RE92's which are underwhelming.
  2. A turbo engine if well designed, as Subaru is, will last many miles as oil is changed regularly. I have owned a Saab turbo and it lasted on OEM turbo till 250k and then sold it so I do not know the outcome. I currently use and likely will alway use dino oil unless the car specs otherwise. Your miles are easy however remember the WRX requires premium, this is something to consider given you drive 30k a year. I am have good faith in my WRX and expect no issues related to turbo during my ownership. However just like life anything can happen any day.
  3. Subaru WRX's are cooled by coolant along with oil. This coolant flows when the motor is shut down for a bit due convection designed in the system. Most people do not boost a motor and then immediately shut it off. You drive slowly or reasonably (not boosting) and park. During this period of time oil flows and all is well in the turbo.
  4. I own a WRX and find it perfect for my driving style. I generally accelerate slowly and drive slow. However if I need to pass or merge onto the highway the WRX is incredibly fast once you hit the 3k mark on the tach. You just get used to finding this point when you need it, I don't even think about it. One thing, check out the Saab 9-2x (the rebadged and might I saw prettier Impreza especially Aero=WRX). There are approx. $7k in rebates and they are cheaper to purchase than a Suby at the moment. GM did a poor job marketing it and its a slow seller. No worries as its pure Subaru with Saab tuning and niceities like extra sound insulation. It also has a better warranty.
  5. Based on your statement your losing 1qt/3200 miles. This is not bad whatsoever. Some motors burn oil faster than others. Consuming oil is normal but a hassle to have to keep checking.
  6. In reference to your owner's manual. If you want just to reference it and not have a hard copy register on http://my.subaru.com they have link to a pdf file of your owners manual.
  7. If you want a year round set of basically snow tires (no need to remove in the summer) look at the Nokian WR. You scarafice a tiny bit of dry handling (if pushed hard) but these tires are great in snow/rain, pretty quiet, decent on ice and no need of changeover hassle. They have a 50k warranty also. We have them on a 96 Civic and love them.
  8. Update, the vibration is now pretty much a mute point. Subaru dealer would not rebalance as they stated it was ok at 65 mph (not always the case) but acknowledged it above 75MPH+. They also recommended Hunter balancer, I went to a decent local independent tire shop with this machine and they said road force was ok however a tire was out of balance and asked who used the cheap weights (Subaru dealer did:rolleyes: ). The tires were also rotated too. I guess I will just the dealer for major services at 30k possibly/warranty work (free loaners since I purchased car there. Not Subi specific independants in the area unfortunately.....
  9. Occasionionally my new 2004 WRX has this whining noise while travelling. It is not the engine as the noise does not go away when the clutch is pushed in or car is placed into neutral. It will continue to whine and then randomly stop. Anyone else heard of this or is it normal. I also have vibration felt through the floor between 65-75mph that has not been figured out. I wonder if they are related or not.
  10. Actually thank you for the answer. The nearest anything that I would even stop at is about 10 minutes away and I get up to highway speed within three minutes of leaving my house typically so car is fully warmed quickly. So I guess I don't fall into the cold category.
  11. I just use the 5w30 conventional oil at 3750 miles in my new WRX. That is all Subaru recommends so it hopefully its safe even with Turbo. I really meet parameters for the normal schedule of 7500 miles however I am presuming that NH may meet the cold parameter. What is cold???? NH is in comparison to South however not to Northern Canada?
  12. Hi I own a '04 WRX with now 3500 miles on it. Since I bought it (never noticed one test drive) it vibrated in steering wheel moderately past 65MPH. They rebalanced tires, test drove and did not work, swapped wheels from another new WRX, same thing. They ordered new axles and a the vibration has lessened to slight to occasionally above slight. They recently rebalanced the tires whcih made no difference. I noticed that in the morning, when first driving, it does a similar feel in the wheel. The next step is ????. I was thinking I will be due for tire rotation and maybe this will help and point to the existing tires or rims?? Thanks
