  1. i'm guessin it would prolly be better to get a whole new engine. at least i know the engine would be ok. of course that all depends on price. i'm trying hardest not to part the ol' gal. anyone in jersey wanna make me an offer on a good engine. ;-)
  2. i dont know who the last person was to take it off. my guess is that it was prolly the original pulley. maybe time took its toll on the ol' gal. my car is in hamilton twp., right outside of trenton. i'm gonna check into that
  3. well not so good news update. the mechanic told my pops that the engine is all but shot to hell. he said the something about a key lock being messed up and the crankshaft pulley wont lock on. has neone heard of this happening? we are looking for a new engine, but it's hard to say if it will work out. would it be worth getting a new engine and if so what does an ej22 engine run in price range and where is a good place to look for these engines online? i dont want to get rid of her just yet cause i like the ol' gal.
  4. unless i'm going crazy, i didnt see a plastic cover on my engine. there are 2 belts one that drives the power steering & altenator and one that drives the AC compressor. is there another belt that i just do know about. also how does the H4 engine design compare to the inline-4 design? It would seem to work on the principles of a V engine. and last question, i've been hearing about the lightweight underdrive pulleys, do they really work the way they say they do? thanx.
  5. I bought a 91 subaru legacy LS and she's been very good to me. the other day i was driving and a weird noise was coming from the engine. i opened it up and saw that the timing belt was coming off of the main pulley that is connected to the camshaft. so i started to take it to the repair shop down the street and when i got there the whole pulley came off. has anyone else had this problem or heard of this happening? i took off the pulley in the lot and it looks like it was chipped. as if it unscrewed itself. what is the average cost of this kind of repair? i love my subie, but i cant dump too, too much money into it. PLEASE HELP!!! ps. it has about 105,000 miles on it and i just got the oil changed and changed the spark plugs and air filter. the guy said my timing belt was fine when he looked at it :-\ (i think he was lying). thanx in advance for all ur help!
  6. I have a 91 subaru legacy that needs serious exterior and interior work. i would like to put a body kit on my car, but i found that there arent any made for my car. my question is if anyone has had success fitting a body kit of similar size from a different car, like a honda or toyota. if so i could really use the input. thanks to all.
  7. thanks...how much of pain is it to change the ignition barrel cause that is exactly what i need done? i dont mind having different keys for the ignition and the door. Also i was reading and found out that its easy to take the window down on a subaru older model...does anyone know of any place that can make a door panel thing for the top...or is there a car model that would be a good one to switch and fabricate a new door?
  8. someone thought it right to steal my car for a joyride that didnt last too long (they caught a flat tire). but now i have a popped ignition lock and a flat tire. Does anyone know how much it costs to it fixed roughly? I have never worked on the steering column so, is this a job that i could do because i know how to wire and stuff? also if anyone knows how to rewire my car to make it a push button or make a switch that must be set to the on position for this to work. i trust that it would just be shorting the wire to go over a switch that i could put some where that must be pushed in for the car to turnover. i would greatly appreciate any input. it is a 91 subaru legacy LS. thanks all. PS...could u not steal cars from broke, college students trying to get an education!!
  9. This is what i would like to know too. cause i'd rather try to fabricate something that costs 30 than buy something that is 150+. would a 91 or 92 honda accord part be a good fit or is this a trial and error sort of thing?
  10. yeah so i will definitely say thank you. and i will say that that stuff is a little out of my league. guess i'll keep shoppin and hope i get lucky. or hit the lottery. which ever comes first...
  11. does anyone know a good year that is good to substitute parts for...right now i just want a new intake
  12. I would like to customize my 91 subaru legacy LS (body kit, intake, cat back exhaust, etc.) but i am having trouble finding the parts. My question is if there is a really good site that someone knows of where i can find parts? and if anyone knows what are the years that parts will fit my car? coming from 92 honda accord where parts could be found every where (especially on ebay) i'm having trouble with my subaru. i'm happy i found this site though. Thanx. -E
