  1. Josh, I swapped the AT ECU in and the car runs fine. So I'm happy. Thanks for your help.
  2. Josh, I am swapping an engine from a 90 Legacy with AT into a 91 Legacy with MT. I am keeping the MT. I got the ECU swapped yesterday. I also swapped the intake manifold and injectors, MAF and ignitor from the AT car into the MT car (91 Legacy). Now the car will start and run. Haven't driven it yet. Looks like I need to swap the IAC. Previously you had mentioned an AT/MT jumper on the ECU. I opened up one the ECUs and didn't see anything that looked like a jumper either inside or on the connectors. I am assuming I need to change the jumper from the AT ECU for a MT. Any idea how I can locate this jumper assuming it exists? Bob
  3. I found the ECU and swapped it into my 91 Legacy with manual transmission and 90 Legacy engine. The 90 Legacy engine originally was from an AT Legacy. I had some previous advice on changing a jumper on the ECU to change from an AT ECU to a MT ECU. I looked but didn't see anything like a jumper. Any ideas on how to find this? I did fire up the car and it seemed to run OK except the idle was kind of bouncing around. Need to drive it some more and see if this potential problem persists.
  4. Josh, I just printed out your picture on the ECU location which appears to answer the thread I just posted. About a year ago when I started this engine swap project (I got side-tracked) you answered my question on electrical issues associated with swapping a 90 Legacy engine (with Auto Trans) into a 91 Legacy with a manual transmission. You suggested swapping the MAF, ignitor and ECU from the auto trans engine (90 Legacy) into the 91 where I am retaining the manual transmission. I have completed the engine swap except for the ECU. Any other suggestions on sensors, etc.?
  5. Where is the ECU located on my 90 Legacy AWD Wagon? My Haynes manual says behind the glovebox. Looked there and found a blower motor and ducting for the heating/cooling sys. Another manual says on the right side of the front seat. Removed the right front seat and pulled up the carpet and didn't see anything like an ECU. I am swapping ECUs between my 90 Legacy and 91 Legacy as I have just completed swapping the engines and understand that the ECU should go with the engine.
  6. I am planning to swap the engine from a 90 Legacy AWD wagon into my 91 Legacy AWD wagon. The 90 is an automatic and the 91 is a manual transmission which I want to retain. Would like to know if there are any problem areas I should watch out for. For example, since I am keeping the manual transmission I will need a pilot bearing. Is the pilot bearing in the flywheel or the end of the crankshaft? Also I assume I should keep the ECM module that goes with the manual transmission, i.e. the 91. Also the 90 has cruise control--the 91 does not. Any problems here?
