  1. 1997 Legacy (wagon). About once a month I have to pull the driver's side headlight assy out to get at the turn-signal connector. The system acts like the bulb is out, but it is something inside the connector. I twist, tweak, and tie-wrap wires in different positions but can never get it to stay fixed permanently. Subaru parts department said the connector is not available to order, and salvage yard wants to sell only the whole harness. Any ideas on where to get this connector without having a part number, or how to fix?
  2. In my mind I think I tested this, several times, using floor and defrost, but I might be wrong ... maybe it's only on defrost. Regardless, you have already confirmed that it is normal (but annoying). Thanks!
  3. When I switch the HVAC control from dash (mid) vents to either floor or defrost, the side vents never turn off (the center vents do turn off). The side vents in the dash have on/off dials under them (but the two center vents do not) so to keep hot air on the windshield or my toes but not blowing at my face I have to manually turn off the side-vent whenever I'm in defrost or floor mode. Is this normal for this model? Thanks, Scott
  4. Just bought a 97 Legacy L wagon. First thing I noticed is that when I use the key on the drivers door lock, the other locks don't actuate like they did in my 90 and my 92. I figure either the car isn't equipped with this feature or it's not functioning. How do I tell if the car has this feature (without tearing open doors hopefully)? Follow-on question ... maybe it has a keyless entry and they just didn't have/provide the fob. How do I tell if it has keyless entry, and if it does, some quick advice on obtaining a fob and programming it would be appreciated. Thanks, Scott
  5. It did it again this morning so when I got to work I crawled under the dash and began exploring. I found the relay for the fan (which stopped working about this time) and started tapping on it with a wrench. On ... off ... on ... off ... sure enough this was the culprit. I took it out and apart and since everything seemed clean and functioning, the only thing I could figure might be some oxidation on the contact (which I couldn't see the surface of) so I worked on it with some emery then crocus cloth. I reinstalled it and started tapping again and couldn't get it to shut off. Hopefully tomorrow morning (and hence thereafter) it won't cause any more problems.
  6. Compressor was running but I can't recall the pressures. I remember the mechanic said everything looked fine from the compressor side (including charge). The question was what would cause something like this, only when very hot outside (and inside the car).
  7. During hot (summer) weather, if I leave the car parked (unstarted) for more than a day, the AC will not get cold. When this happens the compresser functions fine. Usually the AC will work again the next morning. When this was happening one time I took it to an AC shop and he put gages on it and said the the pressure was equal on both sides so he thought the expansion valve was sticking fully open. All other times AC works fine. Thoughts? Scott
  8. This morning the heater blower fan wouldn't come on ... any speed. I figured the relay or fuse had gone out, but during my commute it came on and worked fine, all speeds. Another connector going bad? Where to look? Thanks, Scott
  9. When it gets cold (used to be just winter cold, now its even cool mornings in the summer!), the drivers side shoulder belt won't come up. After driving awhile it comes up like its supposed to. Every once in awhile a real hard door slam will activate it. I figure its a bad connector or relay somewhere, but don't know where to look. The microswitches in the belt channel both seem to be fine. Thanks, Scott
