  1. thanks! You are correct, it's a SOHC. As for the wires, I usually buy Bosch and plugs are usually Autolite. What do you think of my choices? I'm a General Contractor who does remodeling. I can usually swap things out OK, but diagnosing is quite different.
  2. I went to buy plugs and wires today. Clerk asked if it was SOHC or DOHC. I didn't know. How do I find out? Here are the first 12 characters in my VIN: JF1GG655X4H8. It has a 2.5L engine. Thanks in advance.
  3. unfortunately, the key broke off inside. If you could, I'd love to see info on how to remove the switch.
  4. My wife snapped the ignition key inside the switch of my '98 Impreza. It has an automatic trans. Front wheels are turned hard to the right which makes towing it difficult. What are my choices? How do I remove the switch?
  5. SUCCESS! It was a blown fuse for the brake lights. Thanks to Sea and Imbew for the replies....you saved me a lot of headscratching Thansk again!
  6. sorry, but I'm a carpenter....LOL...where is the brake light switch located? Thanks!
  7. just checked the brake lights. They are NOT working, with key on, key off, and with engine running. Where would I start to look?
  8. My '98 Impreza won't shift out of park. Pressing brake pedal does not disengage shift lock. Any ideas? Can I disable this function?
  9. Hi......I'm looking for specs for a MAF sensor for my 1998 Impreza. I'd like to test it before spending $200 for a new one. Had a code PO102 pulled at Autozone today. Car keeps stalling while being driven. Any help is greatly appreciated.......Thanks
  10. Does the '98 Impreza 2.2 have self-diagnostics? I see 3 connectors under the steering column (2 green, 1 black). If so, anyone have the trouble codes for the '98 Impreza?........Thanks
  11. Hi. I am new to the board. I have a '98 Impreza, 2.2, which my wife drives. She needed a jump start the other night to get home from work. It wouldn't start the next morning. I tried jump starting with my truck, but the battery was completely dead, so I called AAA. Tow truck arrived and couldn't get it out of Park, so he jumped it with a battery pack, and it started right up. Had it towed home anyways(from my daughters house). At home, I tried jumping it again with my truck. No luck. I tried using my battery charger start function and it almost turned over, but still no start. So i went and bought brand new battery, installed it, and now it turns over, yet won't start. Almost wants to, but won't, like it's not getting fuel. Checked all fuses and fusible link in fuse box in eng. comp., they're all good. Fuses under dash are all good. I'm stumped. Are there any other fuses? Any fusible links at fuel pump? Where is the fuel pressure regulator located? I think I need a new alternator, but I can''t test it until i get the car running. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
