  1. I neglected to mention in the earlier post that she has also recently replaced the exhaust. Prior to that we thought it was a backpressure problem that was causing the rough idle and poor running. I'll be seeing my sister in a couple of days and I'll try that. I last drove the car before the exhaust swap. After allowing it a couple of minutes for it to warm up, i pushed the throttle to about half way and it just bogged. I did this at about 50 kmphr. It did this a couple of times before picking up. This is apparently a fairly common occurence. Would this be symptomatic of a vaccum leak?

The car's computer was replaced to cure a fuel mapping malady that she was warned about from the previous owner. Is is possible she hasn't cured that problem?

We're still trouble shooting so thanks alot for any advice. I'll try legacy central as well. Thanks for the advice Josh

  2. Hey Everybody,

My sister has a high km 93 legacy turbo (ej22t). After buying it she replaced the timing belt and the car's computer. The car is still running poorly. When she was having the computer installed they suggested a vaccum leak as the most likely cause of the problem. We were going to replace a leaking 02 sensor toady and I was hoping to see if we could also locate the leak. I'm on my second subaru, it like my old one isnt a turbo, so I'm not sure where to start. I haven't driven it for a while so I can't provide more detailed information. Is there a place on these engines where vaccum leaks commonly develop? Any suggestions to get us started? It would be a huge help.

    Thanks alot

  3. Hey Everybody,

I've got a 93 Impreza L AWD Auto with the 1.8L motor. The car is in excellent condition. Interior, exterior, driveline everything. Unfortunately its pushing 270,000 km. My mechanic has a high mileage 92(?) legacy wagon he said i could have for 50 bucks. So I was thinking that if i were faced with a rebuild in the next year would it make sense to rebuild the 2.2 out of the legacy and use it in the impreza? How serious a conversion is this? I've done motor-swaps on GM cars (307-305) conversions so I can handle relatively strait forward stuff.

Would this be a possible/ worthwhile project or would i be better off doing the 1.8? Any feed back would be great

  4. Hey everybody,

I understand that there's alot of wrx wheels floating around? Its true that you don't see too many with stock wheels. But where do they all end up! My ebay/classidfied searches have yielded nothing. If anybody has a set of these or any other wheels to fit my 93 Impreza waggie let me know. Thanks again.

I'm in the Toronto, Ontario area, but have family all over the states

This site is waaaaaaaaaay to addictive!

  5. Rebuilding the starter didnt remedy the problem, but it needed to be done. I have (had) an aftermarket security system that was causing the problem. It was short-circuiting and grounding everything out. I took it to my mechanic and he said they can really make a mess in subaru's, apparently causing irreparible damage. He removed it without to much trouble and I was back on the road for 1/2 labor. Apparently i got lucky! So to anyone using one of these security systems with a removeable plug be forewarned, they can be dangerous

  6. Hey everybody,

I took the starter out and took it to the starter repair place. They replaced the bushings, bendex and the solenoid, so its fine as far as I know. I charged the battery and just checked to make sure it wasn,t the neutral safety switch. So I've at least eliminated those three things. But unfortunately, still no luck. I dont have a manual for this car yet, so I'm not sure about where to look for sensors. Is there a crank-sensor or something I could clean or replace? Thanks for any help or advice. And thanks again for getting back so fast last time!

  7. Hey guys and girls,

Long time reader, first time poster. I was wondering if this problwm sounded familiar to anyone. I have a '93 Impreza L AWD, auto. I bought this car in the spring, and besides rotors and a bit of body-work its needed nothing. However it occasionally will not start. I'll turn the key and all the lights will come on etc. but the motor won't turn over. I'd hear the starter solenoid clunk at least if it were that right? So besides a starter, (which i dont think it is) are there any other possibilties. This is like having a buddy in the hospital! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm driving a buick until then. Thanks!
