I also have a 96 impreza 2.2L and it does not have this abrupt shifting at all. Just wanted to see if others are experiencing the same type of symptoms on there 2.5 motor trannies and should I starting worrying about it. Based on your observation looks like I am not alone and given the fact that you bought yours new.

98 forester L, shifts hard from 1st to 2nd
Just bought this vehicle. Its is an auto trans. I notice that shifting hard only happens when driven slow. When driven at half throtlle from a stop shifting tends to smooth out. Should I start worrying or is this normal ? Check trans fluid and fluid is red and clean. Any ideas? thanks

1996 impreza 2.2 erractic ldle on start up
Hello I am new to this forum and seeking for some expert advice. Own a 1996 2.2 impreza auto 4wd with 83k miles. Notice the past 2 days that during cold start up the idle would go up as high as 2200 rpm for a couple of seconds before if would idle down to 1200 then to its normal idle speed. It never use go as high as 2200 rpm . Yesterday it did it again but now the idle was totally erractic, fluctuating to and from 2200 to normal idle speed of 800rpm, it never stabilize plus I notice that the check engine light was now lit. What could have gone bad? Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks marty
