  1. ??? Not sure I am following you on this. I said I swapped the 4wd linkage, but that was it. Swapping the 4wd linkage shouldn't affect the regular shifting, should it?
  2. I need the exhaust studs for the EA81's with the asv. I know the thread size is M10-1.25 and I measured the length to about 65mm. The problem is, I cannot find them anywhere. Suggestions.
  3. There was a bolt right at the back of the tunnel opening already, just like in the ea82. The length fit perfectly too.
  4. I drove the parts car it came out of home. I don't remember any grinding or anything to that effect. The only thing I remeber being an issue was the clutch being shot and having to nurse it home. Can you elaborate on the uninstalling the shifter and said machanisms? I am not really sure what you mean by that. When I did the tranny swap, I only changed the 4wd linkage. I never even detached the regular linkage.
  5. I just swapped a 5sp into my EA81 I have the clutch adjusted correctly I believe, but it still grinds going into 2nd gear and it has begun doing it going into 4th as well. It is worse down shifting than up shifting. I have also tried double clutching to no avail. Ideas? I am running the EA81 flywheel and pressure plate with the EA82 clutch. Could this be it?
  6. I had this happen when I did my tranny swap. It had a strong crank, but would not start. It turned out I unintentionally pulled a couple of vaccum fittings apart not realizing it. Once back together, it started right up. Just a thought.
  7. Well the clutch was a four spring and didn't sit flush in the pressure plate. Got a new one that fits, new pilot bearing and new throw out bearing. Going to install this afternoon. We'll see if that works. Thanks for the hint on the four spring clutch disc. As for the no start condition: when I removed the transmission, the engine tilted forward from lack of weight on the back. When it did that, it pulled some vacuum fittings loose that I didn't notice. Once I get everything back together, we'll see if that's the answer to this problem. Reverse light I am hoping is just a bad sensor. Never thought to test before pulling donor transmission.
  8. Has anyone else had to change the throw out bearing to something other than the ea82 or ea81? Is it possible this flywheel, clutch, pressure plate combo don't work? Has anyone else run this setup?
  9. I got the 5sp tranny mounted up to the motor and the clutch won't disengage. I went with the ea81 flywheel and pressure plate and the ea82 clutch. I went this route because I wasn't ready to grind on the bell housing yet in order to fit the ea82 flywheel and pressure plate. In the old usrm it said this was a viable option. The clutch cable is tightened a far as it will go. Any thoughts? On a side note, how do I hook up the hill holder? Also, it won't start now. I haven't hooked the exhaust back up yet because I want to make sure everything else is working fine before I put it all back together. Is this why it won't start? I should also mention it is cranking well, just not starting. On a third note, the back up lights won't turn on. When I test them, they work fine. When connected to the tranny and shift into reverse, nothing. Can they be wired backwards? I thought I read on here it doesn't matter. Any and all help appreciated.
  10. Which axels am I supposed to use with this swap, the EA81 or EA82?
  11. Got any pics? I would love to see them. Are you happy with 4" or do you wish you went with a different height?
  12. I have found tying a string to the end of cables and wires prior to pulling the old out makes it real easy to trace where they need to go back to and gives you a pull string to put the new in.
  13. I am working on building my 84 GL Wagon, and I am wondering what height to lift it to. How high have you lifted yours? Got any pics? What size tires can you fit under it? Has anyone ever done a suspension lift on one of these instead of just the body lift? If so, pics and details please. What was the rough cost and level of difficulty? I am only looking for the EA81 wagon information. It is not that the other models aren't fun, but I would like to keep this thread specific. Thanks for the help, Geoff
  14. Who has done this swap? What did you do with the passenger side mount? The drivers side bolted right on, but the passenger side is off by about one bolt hole width.
  15. The USRM says to retain the original tranny mounts. The drivers side mount bolts right on but the passenger side holes don't match. Redrill or is there something I am doing wrong?
