  1. No one has used a vendor for their engine wiring harness and ECM tuning?
  2. If anyone is wondering. The reason why I am concerned with the factory ratios is due to the fact that I will be running smaller tires and a different transmission. I also want to get good gas mileage and I do not want the engine to race (RPM too high) at highway speeds. My hope it that I can come close to what the factory came up with. I also need to be 100% sure of the correct rotation of a EZ36. Because I am looking into different transmissions. My guess is that they turn Clockwise. But I have not found anything concrete in my searches. Tony
  3. Here is a chart I made yesterday to help me with my build. EZ36D 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Final Drive Tire Size RPM @ 65 3.105 1.983 1.454 1.057 0.779 0.543 4.111 30.047 1622 - 2015+ OutBack 3.54 2.264 1.471 1.00 0.834 - 3.583 29.043 2245 - 2014 Tribeca I have a question. I did a search on here and cars101 beforehand but was not able to find what I needed. On here I searched under "EZ36 rotation" to be 100% sure that the EZ36 does rotate clockwise like I think they do. The only link that popped up on here under that search, talked about cam rotation and how many degs. QUESTION: Does the EZ36 Rotate Clockwise? (standing at the front of the engine) Thank you, Tony
  4. What vendor have you used for your Subaru transplant 1. to crack your EMC? 2. to make a power-plant wiring harness? Thank you, Tony
  5. Thanks to help on the other thread. I was able to find the other info I needed. I believe I know what tire size came on EZ36D vehicles and what final drive ratio they also had. With that info I was able to put it into an engine RPM calculator to come up with the best transmission, final drive and known tire size combination that will fit in the project. It takes time but I am getting closer. Thank you again for all your help and support. Sincerely, Tony
  6. Thank you very much. As long as the FINAL Drive specs under the transmission section is the same as what the REAR Differential ALSO has - I have figured out another step in the process that I needed. Tony
  7. Thank you again everyone for your help and support .. I know what engine = EZ36D. I have worked out the wiring. But I still have a few things to figure out. If anyone of you have or know of someone who has a 2010 and up Subaru with a EZ36D and Automatic only - PLEASE check out the following thread below. I need more information to be able to run an Engine RPM - Speed calculator. This will help me to know if I will be able to run the power-plant in the factory sweet spot or not with my planned build. Right now I am only focusing on the Automatic. At my age I don't need any help to overload the brain. LOL http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/162811-where-can-i-find-the-following-information-thank-you/ Thank you for all your help and support. It is greatly appreciated!! Sincerely, Tony
  8. My hope is that there are some members out there with the vehicle(s) I need the info from. I need the following information on 2010 and up with the EZ36D and AUTOMATIC only!! 1. What is the rear end final drive ratio? (I already have the ratio in the trans itself) 2. What size FACTORY tires are used on the same vehicle? (found on factory sticker) 3. What year and model vehicle do you have? NOTE: The above information will help me run an Engine RPM and Speed Calculator to make sure my planned build will be able to run in the factory sweet spot or not. Thank you for your help and time. It means a lot!! Sincerely, Tony
  9. Okay. After your help and doing some more research EZ36 is the one. Now I have to find out if an Automatic and Manual for this engine can be Front WD only.
  10. The Subaru instrument cluster is electronic and not cable driven, correct? I must say the last time I worked on a Subaru was back in late 80's and a lot has changed. Plus I have not done a Subaru conversion yet. So it is all new to me and a big learning curve. Not to confuse things, but to compare (and it is only what I know thus far) my current project has a sensor in either the transmission and/or differential. That sensor reads the given speed the vehicle is traveling and it is also based on the tire size the ECM was programed with from the factory. The RPM a tire will rotate varies depending on the O.D. I had to make 100% sure that there would be a way to change that info in the ECM or the engine would not preform properly. I just want to be extra sure that I can come up with some Subaru power-plants that will work on this other project idea. Thanks everyone for your help. It is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Tony
  11. Tire size changes the speedometer. On the current project I am working on changing the tire size** will change the readings the ECM receives. So I thought just maybe it would do the same with the Subaru ECU. ** Tire size on the vehicle I am taking the power-plant from for my current project uses 31" tall tires. However, the tallest tire I can use on my current project is 26" tall tire. So the tuner is going to have to change the tire size reading in the program of the ECM to get the power-plant to work correctly it the older vehicle.
  12. Are people or TUNERS out there who can tune these Subaru setups? I don't know what size tires I would be using with this Subaru project I have in mind. With the current project I am working on I have to change settings for tire size and other items.
  13. Thanks. I figured out the US. Grin I had no clue on the DM.
  14. Why would I have to lose the VVT? If i use the entire power-plant - wiring and ecm - can't I get the engine to run correctly. I understand Subaru has its own unique setup. I am currently working on a project with a new GM 4.3lt that also has VVT and I will still have all its benefits in that project. My hope is that I can do the same with the Subaru in a different project.
  15. EZ30D (2003-2009) and EZ36D (2010-current) seem to have numbers close to what I am hoping for. Personally do not know anything about them, other than what I read. I have no clue if they can be stand alone or if anyone has used them in their project with success or not. Tony
  16. Hello Everyone, I would like to take a COMPLETE power-plant with; wiring, ECM, instrument cluster and install it in an older vehicle. I can only use it as a FrontWD vehicle. It will not be 4WD or RWD. They have to be the most reliable (hopefully) newer style engines with the highest HP and Torque available. My hope is that there are engines with 250+Hp/Trq available that can be installed in a non-Subaru. I am also looking at AUTOMATIC and MANUAL Conversions. FYI - I am okay with Diesel too. If they are now available in USA and/or Canada, since I last looked into them when they first came out. Thank you for your help and time. Sincerely, Tony
  17. Sounds like owners may not be maintaining their Subaru on a regular basis?
  18. Ultravan offered 47 coaches with a Chevy small block, Corvette Diff and rear disc brakes. I want to do something different. I'll be offering it for sale at any stage and I like to do a Subaru build thread to go along with the project too. Tony
  19. I thought I share the following info. I just went to Numbchux's site and he posted the following quote: "When doing a major engine swap, the most difficult part is the wiring. And obviously a crucial part too. So, I offer my experience and expertise to help others." "Update (5/2/12): After a year or so of waffling about whether I’m going to keep this up or not. I’ve decided not to. My day job takes up too much time and commitment. And any of my free time is spent working on my own projects, and/or any of the 3 Ziptie Rally cars (#171 v2.0, #858 v1.0, and #858 v2.0)." I'll still PM him to see if he may help. And I'll ask everyone else who have posted; is there anyone willing to step up and help with this project after seeing just what I'm working on - in the picture above? If so let me know and give me an idea of what you would want? Short term - IF the project moves quickly = I'll need a harness by summer 2014 However, If things move like most projects - GGG = I'll not need a harness until spring 2015 or later. Keep in mind I will be using as much as I can from the donor Subaru to install into the Ultravan. Everything from the heating/AC, all the dash controls, the steering column with steering wheel and it's switches as if Subaru had made this motor home. Thanks again for all your help and input. Sincerely, Tony
  20. Thanks to everyone for your input and help. I've not been able to be online much lately. I went away July 5th and got back July 21 towing this Ultravan #520 back home to add to our Ultravan collection. Lately I've been getting our rental property ready and there is no internet there. And UV520 has a small, tiny, oh Okay - "Big" 455 FWD Toronado power plant under the bed. Now Ultravan #231 below is the vehicle that I plan to do the Subaru 3.0 conversion in. UV231 was delivered May 9th 2013 and I hope to start work on it next year. To make the conversion easier and to help ensure it works; I will be using everything needed from a donor Subaru. I’ll be using the dash, heater controls and even the steering column too. With the power plant being in the back I'll need to use a bulkhead plug near the power plant, like they used at the firewall on the Subaru and then have a new wiring harness made to run to the dash. BTW - I'll have a build thread when I get started on this porject. Tony
  21. Bennie and Tsuru, Thanks for your input. I have wanted to do an entire Subaru conversion into one of these coaches for some time now. I want to know either way - if it works or not. I just have to see it through! Once I have done the conversion and all the mechanical - I will be listing this coach for sale. I'll use the funds to help pay to restore one of our other Ultravans that we plan to keep, use as intended and display in our museum when not in use. Tony
  22. Bump I've done some more searching. I can only find stuff for GM, Jeep and Ford - but so far nothing really good for Subaru. Unless you are looking for a wiring harness for Subaru radios. ggg I like to find a company that does complete custom wiring harnesses for Subaru conversions.... Do you know of any out there? Thanks, Tony
