  1. I still need to take it to a mechanic, I don't have any of the tools or space sadly enough.
  2. We could work something out about that engine if the person swapping doesn't want it. Also I would be using the subaru approved 'coolant conditioner'.
  3. My mechanic pressurized the system while it was in last and that is what he told me.
  4. I bought the Subaru branded 'coolant conditioner'
  5. Does it matter that the radiator is brand new, maybe 6 months on it.
  6. Mine is the red lifted one with about 220k on it.
  7. So I have a small head gasket seal hole or something along those lines blows white smoke with a sweet smell and eats less than half a cup of coolant a week and never overheats. I don't want to replace the seals nor do I want to do a rebuild. I am saving the money to do an engine swap. Here is the question, is using the coolant conditioner on this engine year ok? Do I have to do a coolant flush in order to add the conditioner. I just want to run this motor till it dies and just save the money for the swap. Will this quick fix be enough to get a few more months out of the engine.
  8. Thanks for the reply but... can you explain that last part like I am 5? I am really new to this car and working on cars in general, I even made the mistake of taking her to the dealshopt to have work done on her when I first got her. I think it was the coolant, it just freaked me out cause it smelled a little different. And I am partial to this car, I've lifted it and she is my first stick so I really want to keep her and drop the ej22 into her for that extra power. I was planning on purchasing the swap kit from SJR unless you know would know of someone who has the same parts for cheaper.
  9. So i recently found out that I have a leak on my head gasket. It will blow white smoke when cold and a little when accelerating hard, other than that it doesn't do it. This is a recent development within the last month. I took it to the mechanic and he did a pressure test to confirm that is the problem. Although I have no overheating problem (the temp gauge stays about 1/4 the way up never seems to get much hotter than that) the car does eat up a little coolant. Now here is where it gets a little odd. I drove her for about 30 miles mostly highway and when I got home and parked while unloading the back end I noticed an almost pumpkin like smell coming off the back end. This is the first time I have smelled this particular smell and it didn't seem like it was coming anywhere from the front end just the back. I could smell it in the cargo area as well. Anyone else have this problem or know why it's smelling like this. Also I really want to do a swap from the EA 82 to EJ 22, I would love to know the best way to go about this and how much the engine itself would cost me. I do have a mechanic that can install it, but I would also like to know about how much you guys think it would run me. Thanks so much for reading and your input!
  10. Thanks for the advice! I filled up my radiator this morning and turned her on, I found the leak and replaced the hose. It was the little hose coming off the thermostat leading to the engine. Im happy it was something small like that.
  11. I am not the most mechanically inclined, tonight I smelled something like maple syrup and stopped to check my engine (ea82 200k+ miles). Sure enough there was coolant that sprayed all over the engine bay. This is the area where is seem to be pooling and or sprayed the most. My temp gauge doesn't show that the car is overheating, as I drove it about 4 more miles home. There is no leaking under the car and my coolant reservoir was empty when I checked. I have not been able to check the radiator itself as the car was still hot. Though the radiator was just replaced by the dealership less than six months ago. I checked the dipstick and the oil is a normal color. I don't know if this is relevant but when I started the car to return home (all round about a 20 mile drive) I inserted the key and turned the car on, when I turned to car to start it I heard a pop type sound and the car was as if it had no battery; no interior lights and no turn over of the starter. I turned off the car and opened the hood after I did that my SO turned the key and the car turned on right away. If you have read all of this, Thank you so much.
