Looking to Buy Our First Subaru
randomlyrob replied to randomlyrob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, we bought it! And got a heck of a deal I might add. No wetness anywhere around the heads or signs of past leakage. Took it around a dry parking lot making tight circles lock-to-lock with no binding. The only thing I noticed is the exhaust appears to be very rusted and I don't think the window washers work. Who knows the best deal on a complete replacement exhaust and are failed washers a common issue?

randomlyrob replied to randomlyrob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhat's the typical lifespan on these head gaskets? Can this be remedied by regular torquing of the head bolts? I know exactly what you mean by torque bind now. Similar to the feeling when you turn an engaged 4x4 on dry pavement?

randomlyrob replied to randomlyrob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIs this "head gasket leakage" something I'll likely have to deal with in the near future, or is it one of those items that if it hasn't happened yet, it likely won't? Also, what do you mean by "torque bind"? Thanks! -rob

Hello from North Akron, Ohio
Hello, I've connected to your forum because a couple of friends of mine have purchased Subarus recently and they normally come to me for car repair advice. I've not had the opportunity to work on many Subarus and am looking for a resource to inquire when I get stumped. Second, I'm looking to purchase an 08 Forester Sport X with 93k miles and am curious as to what I should looking for, if any, normal problem areas? Lastly, does anyone know of a local Subaru guru in the Akron/Northeast Ohio area? I have many specialists that I go to for other brands, but again, I'm not connected with anyone for Subarus. Thanks so very much for your time and information! Sincerely, -rob
