  1. Also I didn't notice any loss in the engine oil or color change, that must be a good sign?
  2. Hi guys, So it's a 2003 Legacy GT with almost 177,000 km on it (110k miles). Today I only recently discovered oil residue when i checked with my fingers underneath the engine where the intake manifold meets the engine block (on the passenger side, both cylinders). Also on the driver side, I couldn't reach underneath the cylinder closer to the front but i noticed a similar residue under the cylinder close to the firewall. The residue was dark black with a lot of dirt in it, was still oily thou. I recently had the full timing belt kit replaced and put in new coolant+conditioner also changed the oil and oil filter. The fact that the oil i noticed was all black and not 'fresh' was kind of a relief but I'm still quite worried. Please tell me that this can be caused by a cheap seal and not the head gasket=/ If you think it is the head gasket, what is course of action to avoid getting it replaced for as long as possible, I can't afford it right now? I know overheating and bubbles in the coolant are biggest signs of head gasket failure and i haven't got any of those. Thank you
  3. yes exactly this! i'd need the cup-holder as well but like you said the dash panel is too bulky for shipping. I've got a 2003 legacy gt where they put the cup-holders next to the handbrake but its really inconvenient when i'm using the triptronic shifter, almost even knocked over coffee once=/ can you give me a shout or PM couple of days before you're headed?
  4. Hi everyone, Anyone who has any ideas where to find some of the interior parts and trims except Subaru dealers and Ebay around Vancouver, BC? Dealers take long time to order and ask for stupid prices, ebay posts are too unreliable and 2nd hand part stores just don't have the interior parts. Anyone around parting out? I'm specifically after the rear ashtray (dark grey) and the 2000-2002 wooden dash trim and cup-holder. Thank you
  5. Thanks for the advice guys, I'll find a way to lift the car securely to have a look underneath and let you know=)
  6. Hey everyone, Quick question for you all, I recently noticed that the automatic transmission shakes the car when I push the accelerator after a while of not touching. It's not much of a gently 'pick up the power' shake, it's quite a move and causes everything in the car to shift place and bang my head on the headrest. It doesn't happen all the time but I'm pretty sure it happens when the car's shifting from 3rd to 4th. When I'm using the shifter itself in manual mode like going uphill, it makes a similar banging noise and feels like something just hit under my feet, again when shifting from 3rd to 4th. I know most of you'd say its normal because of the huge difference in gear ratios and sudden shift of the power. Believe me its not. Has anyone every experienced something like this before? I was thinking of chaning the gearbox oil again but it hasn't been 10k km since the last time it was changed. Thanks!
  7. Hey guys, So as you all suggested, I got the timing belt replaced long with the additions you added and everything works perfectly! here's a list and a photo of what's been replaced, cost me a small fortune but i don't have to worry about any of those for another 150000 kms: -Timing belt, -Two idlers and gear -Tensioner -2 x Camshaft seals -Crankshaft seal -water pump -thermostat & gasket -throttle plate cleaning -hose clamps -Cooling system flush -Antifreeze -Subaru Conditioner Thanks a lot for all the advice!
  8. Oh great now I'm not scared at all:P I think I got the idea, I need it today and then after today the next time I start it, it'll be going straight to the repair shop!
  9. @ MilesFox, I just replaced the heated seat switch lights, it was all like a giant puzzle and not many of those silly plastic clips' like the german cars I've been working on all this time. It already started to make sense what they've done and why they've done it that way.
  10. Thanks a lot for the responses guys! I'll be getting it done next week and will try not to use the car much till that time. Labour cost is killing thou=/ @Jim, I'm quite handy but I haven't got that many tools with me and don't have a garage either. Have you heard of any places around Vancouver instead of the dealers?
  11. Hi everyone, I just bought my first Subaru. it's a 2003 Legacy GT with 107k mi on it, an I'm LOVING it, can't believe what I missed out so many years of driving other cars instead of a Subaru. It seemed to be in a good shape except the 'never replaced timing belt'. I need your expertise guys, love getting my hands dirty but never worked on a Subaru before. Here are a few pics of my precious one Thanks!
  12. Hi everyone, I'm quite new to Subaru's but should be able to get my head around soon. I recently bought an 2003 Legacy GT (2.5 lt) on 171k km (approx. 107 k mi). The previous owner said he's never replaced the timing belt. I'm driving on egg shells at the moment, anyone knows a good place to get the thing done around Vancouver BC? I haven't got any tools and/or place to do it myself. I know I should be replacing the water pump as well, anything else I need to remember? Also how worried should I be in terms of life left for the belt? I've got to use the car everyday=/ Thanks a lot!
