I am researching engine swaps for my 96 Legacy wagon and have a few questions:
I am going to remove my EJ22 engine and leave the 5 spd manual transmission in. The harmonic balancer worked its way loose and wiped out the keyway on the end of the crank!!!
I would like to install a turbo motor and I am trying to figure out the available options before I start calling around looking for parts. I want to avoid the JDM stuff to keep it simple - and I don't need crazy power, just more than the NA engine.
I have seen articles describing installing EJ20 engine from a WRX. The wiring harness work looks tough, but doable.
If I use a Legacy turbo engine does that make the wiring simplier? If it makes it better, which turbo engine should I get? It looks like there was a 91-94 2.2L Turbo, which is older than I would want (it would have the wrong wiring harness), right? Then there is a EJ22T from 2002 to 2004 in the Legacy - I think that's what I would want. Is this engine significantly different than the WRX engine? Any other options?
Thanks,
Bob
