How to remove Power Steering Pump Reservoir
bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI thought about 1/4 inch ratchet, but didn't have a 12mm socket for 1/4 inch. I didn't want to go and buy a 1/4 to 3/8 inch adaptor.

How to remove Power Steering Pump Reservoir
bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOkay, I did it. Here is the info: 1. The bolt inside the reservoir is 12mm. Need a 6 inch extension to get to it. 2. My O-ring was shredded - just some scraps I could find ! So I had to just match based upon the space for O-ring. 3. The O-ring seems to be 3/4 of inch (to be more precise inner diameter is 5/8, outer is 7/8 and center to center is close to 3/4, with ring being 1/8 or slightly more). The ring is probably in metric. I had a ring lying around from my previous subaru work, so I didn't shop for it. 4. See the attached pics for the O-ring side on Power steering and the reservoir flipped upside down. Note that there is only one bolt. 5. Getting to the back bolt away from the pulley that holds the reservoir is a little painful. I just used a 12mm wrench.

How to remove Power Steering Pump Reservoir
bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks. Will post the ring size when I get to it! I am planning replacing Part 55 in the diagram below...I wonder what "replacement bearing" you are talking about. http://www.porcupine73.com/pics/diagrammatics/power-steering-pump-oring-96.gif I am not overfilling the reservoir, I looked in after 6 odd months and it is getting empty!

How to remove Power Steering Pump Reservoir
98 Subaru Outback. 2.5L. My power steering pump is leaking. Based on the forum research, it seems like it is the o'ring between the pump and the reservoir - it is dripping from where reservoir meets the pump. I am trying to remove the reservoir WITHOUT removing the entire pump, but no luck. I did get the bolt in the back (away from the pulley) that seems to hold the reservoir. However, I can't pry the reservoir off. How does one remove the reservoir only to replace the O'ring or do I have to remove the entire pump?

Starter clicks 2-8 times, then starts
bearbalu replied to ryanw's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI did this repair as well - just replaced the two solenoid contacts. For those of you looking for the part/links: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Starter.shtml You need an A and a B for Subaru Outback (mine is 98). 5 bucks each. http://www.repairkitsuk.com This guy from UK sells the plunger too - I don't think you need it - just the two contacts.

Driver Side Power Window
bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks. Yes, I took the door panel out today and cleaned the switches. Interestingly, i had two problems. The first one was a broken switch - the tiny thing that fits into the spring on the switch was slightly broken and hence not pushing fully against the contact. As a result, I wasn't even getting a "click" on when the switch was pushed up. When I swapped that piece with another switch, it worked for a minute and stopped working. Then I cleaned the contact again and it worked... For those wondering about removing door panel on 98 outback - there are only two screws - one on the arm rest, and one on the inside lock. Initially I was hoping to do it without removing the door panel. The power window switch cover just pops out. After that I tried removing the piece of plastic that goes around the inside lock and power switch - however that does NOT come out.

Driver Side Power Window
Window went down , but won't go up. When I move the up/down switch, I hear the motor on down, but not on up. All other windows work fine. Ideas appreciated.

CEL, Speed Sensor
bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLikewise - It would be great if folks make it a habit to post the "conclusion" - yeh or neh - for benefit of others. Too often threads die out with no idea of what finally happened! Thanks Nipper!

CEL, Speed Sensor
bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX:banana:Okay, I replaced the speed sensor (Picture 1 - Part # 85082AC012) and the speedometer works now! Pretty easy to replace this part - you can get around the exaust to remove the old part from the bottom. You can screw in the new part from top with hood open, though it helps to get underneath to tighten it. Raising the car helps, but I think is not even necessary. Need 17mm wrench. 100 bucks for the part at the dealership in Bay Area! Thanks Nipper!

bearbalu replied to bearbalu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI went to the dealership to look at the part. Seems like it is picture #1 - the whole thing is a single assembly screwed into the transmission - the black plug and the entire metal thing. Part # 85082AC012
