  1. I have a 91 Legacy with an EJ-22. A lifter, tappet, whatever you wana call it, on the passenger side is knocking. I have replaced the lifter with a new one...still knocked. I moved the new lifter from that position to another position, the known good one I put in that spot began to knock. I took off the rocker assembly and blew out all the oil holes...everything is clean that I can tell. When I move a different lifter to that position it dosent knock right away, takes about 10 minutes or so... What gives here? Magical powers making that spot not pump oil to the lifter? It's a freakin tube, how can oil not be making it through an empty tube that seems to be delivering oil to every other lifter?!?!?! Leme know what you think. DT
  2. Ok, got IAC cleaned up and in...started perfect and went from a fast idle to a slow normal idle in a smooth manner...so far so good...*crosses fingers* I'll post tomorrow night and let you know if it started ok in the cold cold morn. Thanks for the help nipper! I would not have figured that one out without it.
  3. Ok, so got the IAC off and have it soaking in some cleaner...looked kindof gunky...so what exactly does the temp sensor control? What kind of symptoms could I expect from a failure and how do I test it?
  4. Hey guys, hoping somone can help me here. I have a lot of symptoms, and they ocassionaly change...I hope I can accurately describe them cuz I need some help! Ok, somtimes my sub starts fine and runs great. Other times it will just turn over with no compression sound...I know what your thinking, it's not the timing belt...I just think it getting fuel or fire. And still other times it will start but it will be missing on at least on cylinder...and run very rough. Durring these times I have checked the spark plug wires and there is fire, but I don't know if it is firing in the right sequence or what ever, seems to be firing irraticly from at least one plug wire, and that plug wire makes no difference in running when I pull it. When I pull the injector plug wire on that cylinder it makes a slight difference in the running...but not much. The wierd thing is that it will somtimes change cylinders...usually #3 or #4...and it all goes away once it started and warm...and if I go back out to the garage in a few hours it will start and run like a dream. WTF! Things I have replaced, checked: Fuel filter R2 (Remove and Replace) Fuel pump pressure check good Plugs Cleaned and gapped Plug wires ohm checked good Cam Pos Senser Did voltage check when running good only, good Think that's it Ps. it dosen't do this all the time...just on the mornings I need it! Mabey temperature related? ARRRGH!!!
  5. Ok, here's the skinny...I had some "skip" problems with my subie, that is when you make a sharp turn left or right there is some front tire skip kinda like you would experience on a large 4x4 with the hubs locked in. It's most noticable at lower speeds, such as in a parking lot or pulling out of your driveway. Well, I checked the fluid and it was nasty...not really knowing what the problem was I decided to go ahead and buy a tranny out of Japan. Well, I got it in and for the first day things went well then on the second day my check engine light came on again,(it came on previously as the skip problem got worse). Well this time I got a little more educated and found the trouble codes and how to retrieve them. You can find a ton of info at this excelent site... http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html Anyhoo, I did the TCU check and it gave me code #24, which is the duty C solenoid....that is exactly what probably went bad on my other tranny according to those in the know..so what the heck? Is it possible that my TCU is bad? Or perhaps a loose wire? Please somone advise. Thank you, Don
