  1. Well I think I probably will, like I said I am impressed with it. At this point I would only do a 2.5 if I did an STI swap. A daunting task I am not willing to play with.
  2. Thanks guys!! It is already an obsession! I am scouring Craigslist like a mad man looking at potentially better parts! When looking for the car I had planned on swapping in the 2.5 for power, but I must say I am impressed with the 2.2 output! My dad owns a shop in Cary NC, so we will be taking good care of her. Also, still on suspension, any autocrossers here? When I set up my Prelude I hardened the back end a bit more than the front, to help with push. I assume these will do the same, based on weight, engine position and the front wheels doing some of the driving.
  3. Hi guys, I just got a new car!! I now have a 96 Legacy Outback, It is a 2.2, five speed. I have been searching for a while to find an acceptable example and have made a few posts here looking for info and I finally found one. It has heated seats, side mirrors and a block heater. The AC works and the car as a whole is in wonderful shape. It will be getting a timing belt before I start driving it daily and the rear shocks are making a noise I have never heard before. Other than that, the car is a dream for 1400 bucks. It does have 255k on the tach though, that and the aftermarket sunroof are the cars biggest problems, but both problems I am willing to deal with for the price. It feels great, feels like a car with half the miles. My plans for the car are a daily driver that does fairly lite autocross duty. I am not going for championships or anything but I am an avid driver. The first thing I would like to inquire you SubaGuru's about is suspension. The car needs shocks anyway, I would like to do an upgrade if possible. I have read that 02-07 WRX parts bolt directly in with the possibility of slight rear end sag, is this true? Also, I have a few different weighted springs laying around along with some adjustable collars. I am considering buying shocks and just putting my own springs and collars on and going! Before I do that though I would like to know stock spring rates, and maybe hear a few suggestions of what harder spring rates might be good for double duty. Anyway, I am very excited to get this thing on the road, my first and only car until now (I'm 22) has been an 87 Honda Prelude so this is a big departure for me. I appreciate any knowledge you guys can lend me!
  4. I see, thank you! That is awesome. Hopefully I will be able to show you guys my swap soon!
  5. Ok guys, I popped up here not too long ago asking questions about what I could put a friends EJ25 in. You guys were a big help. I am here for part two now. My friends car is a 98 Legacy Outback. I am going soon to look at a 98 Legacy, just a sedan. Its a GT. The interior of this car is tan and looks a little banged up while the interior of my buddies is in great shape, and black. How much of the interior can I just swap out? (door panels and seats mainly) Also I would like to back up some research I did. I am fairly confident the engine is a direct bolt in, yes? And suspension, 02-07 WRX shocks bolt right in? To the Sedan I mean. Thanks in advance guys!
  6. Ok cool, thank you. What was different about all the other Foresters that I cant use but one year? Edit: Is this the same motor they put in the first RS? If I found a blown 98 RS, could I drop in my motor and have an RS?! That would be exciting!
  7. Wow, you guys are great! Immensely helpful. My dad owns a shop working on Asian cars and the reason I am focusing on this EJ25 from my buddies car is we JUST did the head gaskets and had the heads refreshed before the accident. The engine has probably 5,000 miles on it. Brand new. It is good to know I have a lot of options! It looks like I can put the exact car together that I want. I can't decide between a Forester or an Outback sport. I thought for sure the 2.2 and 2.5 ECUs would be different though, you guys are a big help! Also to go a little further, didn't someone come out with a redesigned head gasket that fixes the problem with the EJ25?
  8. Wait that is basically any Subaru between 95-98 haha, also, thank you very much for the information
  9. Ok, so if I find a Forester OR Impreza Outback Sport I can just put it right in if it is between 95 and 98? Even if the Impreza Outback I find has a 2.2 in it?
  10. So I have a friend who wrecked his 98 Outback and its totaled. We just did both head gaskets and heads AND timing belt. It is basically a new engine. I want to buy this engine from him and find a shell with a bad engine and put together a nice Subaru for cheap! Like I said it is a 98 Outback with the four cam 2.5 liter. The car is an automatic and I will be trying to find a five speed. My question to you guys is what cars can I put this engine in with limited modifications to make it go in? I have a theory that I can put it in most anything. I am heading for a Forester but I would like to get a 2001 or so body style Forester. Is that an option? That or an Impreza Outback sport are my first choices. Thanks guys for all your expertise!
