  1. I have done that too! My mechanic says the tranny is in good shape; that being an older car, the shift release sometimes is difficult. I was told just to play with it (what a pain). Yesterday, I couldn't get it to release until the car had warmed up for 15 minutes ( it was in the 20's in N. VA). Thanks for the advice.
  2. I do press the brake all the way, it does click. But it still is so stubborn. I will take a look at the manual. Thanks for the help!
  3. I have a 99 Legacy L wagon, 30th Anniversary edition with 85,000 miles. The automatic gear shift release button won't work in cold weather without me playing with it a bit. Is this a common problem? Can it be repaired and what is involved with repairing it?
  4. My mechanic confirmed that I have nothing wrong with my gear shift. It appears that the release button is tempermental and I have to play with it before it will release in temperatures below 50 degrees. My Leagcy L wagon is a 1999 automatic model with 84,500 miles. Is this fixable and what am I looking at in expense? Thanks!
  5. My 99 Legacy Wagon has 82,000 miles on it. When the weather is 50 degrees or cooler and the car has been sitting overnight, I can't engage the automatice gear shift. The car has to warm up for 10 minutes before I can shift gears. Any solutions?
