  1. My 1999 forester might have a problem. 3 weeks ago I replaced the rear driver side wheel bearing. At that time, I could not spin the tire, it spun but only until the axle caught up with free play of the drive train. All three other tires were on the ground. I assume this amount of rotation is normal. The wheel bearing install went well and it's nice and quiet. Today I put on my summer set of wheels and tires, while this wheel was off the ground, all others on the ground, this wheel/tire spun freely with no resistance. Nothing feels sloppy or unusual. The axle shaft spun with it.

    Is there an issue here?

    Thanks.

  2. My coworkers come to my desk on separate occasions and tell me my hazards are flashing, I go look and nothing is flashing. I watch and watch and nothing. I turn around then turn back and look real quick and nothing. I have not seen them flash while car is off (or on) (or ever) but don't think my coworkers are messing with me.

Any reason why my flashers flash while parked and off?

    Thanks.

  3. FIXED

Under the steering column, mounted on the dash panel is a small button used to program key fobs and something about valet key. This button must have gotten kicked or something but was broken, button was MIA and the switch was closed most of the time but open when it was bumped or jiggled causing the locks to malfunction.

My people tell me that this button was Subaru OE but subbed out to an aftermarket company for installation. I wanted to replace it but was told that Subaru won't have one because of the previous statement and would be rare to find at a salvage yard. Easily purchased at Radio Shack, it's a basic momentary button.

I opted to cut the plug off, tape the ends and tuck it under the dash.

  4. Door lock timer? I'll dig into that and see what I can find.

I assume the 1999 provide both manual and power locks, Both are covered in the owners manual.

Now I've put a new battery in the fob but cant program it cuz the button is MIA and rest of the button is dangling under the dash. GRRR!

Even with it un-reprogrammed, the locks continue to malfunction. Although it didn't do it for two days, it started again this morning.

    thanks

  5. I took the battery out and I still have the same results.

Are the door locks supposed to lock automatically when the car is put into gear or hits/exceeds a certain mph?

    Going to cars101.com for ideas.

Any one out there suspect that there's a short or a bad door button?

Help. It's really annoying and I'm afraid I'll get locked out. My keyholes are crusted up and can't get the key in (like that when I bought it).

  6. 99 forester S auto trans, 140,000 miles.

Are the locks supposed to lock automatically when you start driving. Mine have locked but very seldom.

Now, the locks lock at any ole time it feels like it and tries to lock over and over at random intervals.

And, my FOB is not locking the doors after I park and get out. But it locks and tries to unlock (while driving) but does not unlock successfully.

Right after the locks lock I hear what sounds like a vvaaccuumm sound, are the locks actuated by vvaaccuumm?

There's no pattern to this behavior, not while braking or turning or going, not on bumps or smooth tar.

    Any ideas?

  7. hey

    I have a 1984 GL wagon 4x4 with AC.

Several vacuum line have been terminated with a screw or are just dangling with no real obvious place to hook up.

Does anyone have photos or a good diagram of the lines?

Also, there are two large stubs with rubber hose coming out of the air cleaner, one on each end. My book doesn't show the one on the driver's side at all, that hose has been cut.

The passenger side on has been cut also.

Car has been used as a daily, but currently starts well but stalls within 5-10 seconds.

Any suggestions at all will be helpful.

    Thanks

  8. Greetings all,

I am a proud owner of a 1984 GL wagon 4x4. Would like to hike it up a couple of inches, make it my ultimate ice fishing vehicle. Hope to start a Brat collection on of these days, always loved 'em.

My GL has 103k on it, came from Colorado but is not without it's problems. Looking forward to getting some advice.

    Thanks
