  1. WOW! I just took some dental floss out there and sawed under it. It came right off and after that I just used my thumbnail to scrape away the remaining residue. It was a two-minute job and I didn't ruin either the fish or the car. Thanks again, guys!!
  2. I have a friend who would like the Icthus (fish symbol) from my car. I really want to take it off. It came with the car, and no...it's not a magnet. Is there a way to get it off without damaging the paint below? My idea was to use a hair dryer to heat up that area and see if the glue will melt a little and allow me to peel it off that way. I don't know how well that will work. Please help! Thank you very much in advance.
  3. I'm considering buying a '97 Outback Limited with 85,000 miles. The dealership says it's got piston slap and has marked the sticker price down appropriately ($6,500 versus $8,000-9,000). The dealership also gave me a ballpark estimate for a mechanic to repair the piston slap ($1500-$2000). I am buying a new car to replace my '97 Outback which I lost to an accident. (with 135K miles...poor ole girl, she would have gone a lot longer too) It was also a 2.5L engine. IMHO, they both sounded pretty much the same. Other than the piston slap, the car is in excellent overall condition...very clean and looks well taken care of. I did a Carfax report and it came out clean. I actually test drove it today and was pleased by it's performance. Everything else seems fine...the steering, brakes, shifting/transmission, and everything else feels okay. It just has a slight 'knock'. I called my mechanic and they said that Subarus are noisy. These guys are import specialists and they have lots of experience with 'Rus. I am having the car inspected by them on Tuesday. I also did some research online and apparently piston slap is pretty common in this kind of car. The general feeling I got from reading about it is that piston slap is not that serious of a problem...is this true? What are your experiences with piston slap? Is it a dealbreaker for this car? I really LOVED my Outback and want to get another one with less than 100K miles on it, but Subies that haven't already been driven into the ground are really scarce. I like this car, but I want to know if the piston slap is something I should walk away from. Thanks so much!
  4. Hello there...I have been looking around for a bra for my 1997 Legacy Outback. I mostly want it to cover up a paint scrape on my left front fender, in front of the front wheel. I don't want the scrape to get bigger (It was there when I inherited the car...I am a wreckless driver ) Even if it only covers up half of the scrape, it's still better than nothing. I can't really afford bodywork and plus it is an older car so it makes little sense for me to put money into it for purely cosmetic reasons (at least with the bra I can resell it when I no longer need it whereas with bodywork I cannot get any of that back when the car finally dies). I have looked on eBay and some sites that Google showed be but so far, no luck. If any of you know where I could buy one, or are willing to sell me one, it would be GREATLY appreciated by my car and I! Thank you, guys!
  5. Hey there, name is NorthWolf. I live in Grand Forks but am originally from Denver, Colorado. I am 18 years old, female, and a college student majoring in Communication. I LOVE my Subie! She (yes, a she) is a 97 Outback. Actually she was a special-ordered custom vehicle with the Limited engine and some Limited parts (stereo, etc) and the regular Outback upholstery and interior fittings. The lady who ordered her didn't like her (wtf?) but oh well, her loss is my gain! My mother drove her for several years and now has an Eddie B. Explorer, and I inherited her car, so now she's mine. Looks a LOT better than most student cars I see on campus. She is a great red color with gold trim. My mother was very anal about being a gentle driver and having the car taken in for maintenance, etc....so she is in GREAT shape even though she has put more than 130,000 miles under her wheels. No modifications on her, because I simply have no real use for them. The car is old and I don't want to stress her out too much with trying to race or offroad (like there is any serious offroading to be done in ND anyway *eyeroll*). However I would like to get a bra for her, to cover up a scrape on the fender in front of her front left tire. If anyone can recommend a place to get a bra for a 97 Legacy, please let me know! I am willing to buy used. I am going to get seat covers for her too (tasteful black sheepskin, most likely) because I need the extra padding. Here are a couple pictures of her (I have yet to get some of 'us') but look what I parked under I am a naughty one!!! http://www.cyoc.net/albums/northwolf/cleancar1.jpg http://www.cyoc.net/albums/northwolf/cleancar2.jpg Nice to meet you all!!!
