  1. great to know, but did they make a rear diff with those gears? because ineed my 4wd. thanks john, ~red
  2. hey people, got a question for you all, i got my 86 gl wagon with a webercarb conversion, running like a boss and suddenly i'm getting vibration and clicking from the front end when accelerating. so i swap out the CV's, no more clicking, but still getting the vibration and some scraping noise. turns out my transmission was going out, glad i caught it before it totally cashed. so i take it to my mechanic, he findsa low mileage jap trans for me. put it in and the CVs dont match up. he ends up putting AT CVs on it, but now the gear ratio is different than my rear end. the original trans is an FM-4, the new one is an FM-2. anybody know what's up with this? the rear end is 3.9 gears. any help would be awesome ~red
  3. well, i started her up and she runs fine. the idle is a little high, but ill adjust that. gonna add the coolant back in and warm her up and set the best idle and take her for a run... i will leave that hole on the cat open like you said. we'll see how she does on a short run and ill post finished pictures here... thanks everyone for your help!! ~Red
  4. thanks for the help, everyone! i should be able to start her up today...
  5. okay, so what is this for and to? there was a small tube going to a small can, dunno what it does... passenger side of the engine bay, had 5/8 hose on it, the line that is there goes to the block. is that like an oil overflow or something? can i just hook that to the one from the other side nd let them flow back and forth from one side to the other?
  6. just before i removed a few more things and hooked up a few more and plugged some holes...
  7. okay, first photo is everything i have removed. if you see anything i shouldnt have removed, please point it out and tell me what it does... second photo - the air valve that comes out of the intake into the block, i saw you had that closed off. is it necessary i close that and why? also second photo - i have these two holes left.ill check the ASV system post for the bottom one, whats the other one for? i removed some canister that was attached to it, large hoses on it. and last picture - whats this thing next to my distributor? big opening also like the one i am asking about in the previous pic, dunno what it is for. any help is good help at this point,i am almost finished!
  8. how do i attach photos on here? i took 4 pics of where im at on this conversion, but havent found the spot to attach them...
  9. okay, so i have the manual shift version for my 4wd and no a/c, so i dont need the third one evidently. What does that bottle look like? is it a big round plastic ball? because i have that. and it doesnt matter what opening on the intake i use, just the biggest i have open for the brake booster? also, that flexible piping that connected to the old air filter housing and goes directly to the first catalytic converter, what do i do with it? because that cat needs the fresh air to help it work, right? so if i am not gonna cut that one out right away, should i just put a filter on that thing? you have been a massive help, and ive tried to follow the directions i have found in the post, but most of the time the photobucket pictures werent there and this is my first solo major project ive done on a motor. helped a guy rebuild a top end on a 350 chev once, thats really it...
  10. yeah, bud, i've read through that several times. ive checked all the stuff i can find on here, but still have some questions.i did the datsun adaptor plate like you recommended, and the hoses for the PCV also using the t junction likei saw on there too.i got the return line closed from the tank, gonna put a filter on the tank vent line. but im needing some clarification on those three vacuum lines that need to be ran. now ive pulled almost everything out that i thought needed removed. my car does not have A/C, so i dunno what else i need to run and from where to have the vacuum system work correctly, esp. the brake booster and the distributor lines and where they hook up ...
  11. okay, guys. first, i want to thank you all for your geat posts and the superb threads i have read on here. here's the deal. bought an 86 gl 5spd 4wd hi-lo. doing the weber conversion, ripped out a bunch of stuff, put some back the way ive seen on some of these threads, reached a dead end. got the weber on, got it all connected, but still need some clear pictures of where to run the final lines of vacuum hoses, what all needs closed off, what needs to stay. ill put some pictures on here in a little bit to show what ive got done. thanks for any help you can give. i need to finish her this weekend. love this forum!!! ~awdwagon
