  1. so i took apart the AAV (red circle; the same as the IACV?), cleaned it and stuck a new gasket on, but the problem persists. It seems that the fluctuating idle only occurs after i've been driving the car for ~5 min, about the time the idle should be dropping -- no sooner and no later. Out of curiousity, what are the two components circled by the orange and green circles? I couldn't figure those out from Haynes. cheers.
  2. I'm having some problems with the startup idle on my EA82T. Sometimes when I start it cold the the initial idle is higher than normal (2-2.5K rpm) and occasionally it will fluctuate rapidly between 1.5K and 2.5K. Once warmed up, however, the idle is spot on at 700rpm. Any ideas what could be the root of this? Seems like it could be a vacuum leak to me, but I haven't seen any obvious problems with the vacuum hosing? Thanks. Jeff.
  3. If I do decide to remove the turbo is there any maintenance that I should do while I'm at it? It seems that the exhaust manifold gasket is an obvious place to start, but anything else? --whitey.
  4. Hi all, I have noticed that the turbo on my 87 GL 4wd turbo (105K) has begun to steam what smells like coolant. It appears that the steam is coming from underneath the turbo, but I haven't had a chance to take a closer look. Has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be the the coolant inlet line has developed a leak? If so, does this require removing the turbo or can this be remedied with the turbo in place? --whitey. p.s.- Thanks for this awesome message board, I've already found tons of useful advice....
