  1. Ya , but still getting fallout from hitting a 200 pound deer on that side , it was a wrestling match, will check for leaks and tweaks , thanks
  2. Slight miss around 2000 rpm Rough south of 1200 rpm Stalls out, but starts right back up 900rpm or less Only clue I have so far is I put a new air filter in , symptoms happened at next start Replacing old filter did not Help
  3. Swinging and missing finding a stock replacement. Too much kinking and twisting to confidently strip off heat shield and repair . So I've started looking at E-bay stainless . Feel free to support or condem my move , and feel free to let me know you have a spare laying around the Louisville Ky area .
  4. http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/99-do-yourself-illustrated-guides/27878-4eat-tail-section-rebuild-without-removing-transmission.htm l think this is the arena , not sure what clip is culprit , I just did this to smooth out the clutch pack and used a schematic from the dealer to make sure I got the reassembly right
  5. looked under several years/models and it seems the header (y- tube to first flange from cylinder head) is near identical on every subaru. Smashed mine good on the first drive after 4 years of sitting still, was hoping the trip to the junkyard would be easier knowing this part was like the fuel filter, and was almost unchanged throughout ej25 history. And yes I know the filter has been around since pre ej25
  6. how do I know if these grooves are beyond the file ? or is it just the deburring process that makes them quiet ?
  7. Thanks . Finally something to inspire and possibly confound me into next week Already see that my shift solenoid is mounted outside of tranny and dealer gave me two plates to figure out, but it does not seem to be rocket surgery.
  8. Master Subaru tech diagnosed noise out of tranny as drive plates in transfer case being grooved out . I think I have new ones on hand . Have engine out with new head gaskets etc installed . Tranny is on the floor. Am I off to a transmission shop, or is this doable by a reasonably fearless, and well tooled, home mechanic ? Also tried searching for existing threads on forum , no such luck.
