  1. It just cranked in less than two seconds, thanks for your help, I'll post again if it does it again and what fixes it
  2. I have left this case sir for a month or more with no problem, and now it does it after a few hours. I have been at work for 9 hours now, so I will try the fixes mentioned when I get back to it Edit for autocorrect
  3. 1999 legacy obw. 194k, auto. I have owned this car about a year, and I have not had to change stuff much. The big copper cable were corroded, and I have flushed all the fluids. Two days ago, I drove the car about forty miles on the highway, then turned it off for a few hours parked in the sun. When I came back to it, it took around five seconds to start up, a little long. Then I drove home, got out, then got right back in, it started right up. Then after that trip I parked it on the street in the sun for a whole day. This morning i cranked for 10-15 seconds before it caught. It has been hot here in Denver, but I wouldn't call it unseasonal. What should I look at first. It is parked in the shade while I run to work for a few hours, so we will see if that makes a dif. Thanks everyone!
  4. Thanks for the help and discussion. Also forgot to mention I use whatever filter comes with the Mobil1, usually Mobil1 or Fram
  5. I do about 5-10k per change, but go more on the color and if I want to add the half quart or do a whole change. I use Mobil1 full syn, and usually add a little of the Lucas sticky stuff, subbing half a quart on the 2011 forester and a whole quart on the 99 leggy. The leggy is weeping oil from seals and the tranny, so I'm trying to slow that a little. I have changed the tranny fluid recently on the 99 as well. Both drive great, but want the most life out of both of these. (Edit for spelling errors)
  6. I feel like i may be spending too much on oil changes and have gotten very good advice from this forum. For my specific situation we are talking a 2011 forester 2.5(second hand at 36k) and a 99 legacy outback 2.5(second hand without a title or any back story at 190k) but in general what do these engines like?
  7. Are you sure that nothing happened to the engine before this happened... As in nothing was replaced or fiddled with. I know it is hard to remember a season ago.
  8. Thanks! I will check for the alt hole, and zip tie away! Thanks for the responses!
  9. So we bought this baby second hand with the hitch receiver installed, but as far as we could tell it didn't have the wiring. I had been tempted to buy the box several times but hesitated. So I got bored one day and decided to pull all of the trays out of the back cargo area, and lo and behold a factory trailer wiring harness still in the plastic bag sitting next to the spare. So now it's up to me to figure out the routing for the wires out of the passenger compartment for connecting to the trailer. The wires after the converter box has a boot that will fit in a knock out under the spare, but that leaves the wires sticking out ready for road rash. Drill a hole? Am I missing something? Thanks!
  10. Great thread so far. I have a follow up question about a 1999 legacy outback with 194xxx, I bought it 4k ago with non-working ac. I have charged it with the parts store stuff with leak detector and it worked for about a day. Obviously there is a leak, but I can't find it.... Should I do the procedure above: hoses, orings, charge, profit? Colorado gets hot in the summer....
  11. I just did this with a junk yard arm and the only way I was able to get the torque needed was to put the wheel back on and use my floor jack to turn a breaker bar in the correct direction. Also, can't stress the six point socket enough.
  12. When you say it can pay for itself in fuel savings, what does it do to save fuel. I am very interested in one of these for my 1999 outback... Thanks
  13. I drove through a drive-thru the other day and realized my driver window button didn't work. It was popped out a bit from the rest and didn't move up and down correctly, but more importantly the window didn't budge. I ended up taking the plate of the switches and saw smoke coming out of the switch when the car was turned on. I pulled a small metal piece out and the smoke ended. All good so far, but now I'm wondering what happened and if there is a fuse for the windows. Also should I junk yard this or will it just happen again? PS, I love my subie, but also the community. I have been kept busy fixing things since getting this car (without a title) but couldn't have done it without this forum and love every minute of it
