  1. thank you very much for all your help. I bought a new oil and transmission filter and Trans-X, I will be with the mechanics on friday and work on it. I hope to see a notable difference from all the stories I've read. Again, thank you very much.
  2. Hello all, it has been a long time since i've posted. I have a new car (since December '09) it is a 1999 legacy outback with 67k on it, automatic, power everything. Since I got it there has been an issue where it seems like as its changing gears from 1st to 2nd that it slips and sometimes jerks into 2nd gear. In June as I was going to Montreal right at the border the transmission line busted and dumped fluid at the border!!! The car was not driven afterwards, it was towed to a Quebec garage where they ripped me off and and charged me $500 for 5 inches of transmission line and fluid. I am trying to sell the car before I move back to Montreal and while the slipping still exists it has not gotten worse but i'd like to know some thoughts on potential issues from buyers. -Is it a transmission issue inside? or can it potentially just be a filter change and thats it? I thought of flushing the line because theres only 67k, but i've been told by the mechanic where I work (Quechee Golf Club) that there are potential risks to flushing a line with many thousand miles on it. Any thoughts? Thank you very much for all opinions and thoughts on the matter. Thomas
  3. That was on an older car a '92. this is a '96. The last post i had made was in November when the first caliper was making a grinding noise. I will go to the mechanic tomorrow.
  4. Alright guys, check this out. And if you can give me advice on what i should do. Nov' 05: Front right Caliper pin changed, 2 new rotors on front, and new pads. $175 March 2nd' 06: Right Caliper REPLACED, Rotors changed, and new pads......I was told this was the end of it. $336 NOW: The left rotor is steaming when the snow hits it. And i touched it (dumb idea) and burnt my fingers. The right side is just warm. Does the left side sound to you like it needs to be replaced? This car is good, its just that in the last three months all the sudden everything is going wrong. What should i do!?!?! Thank you for any and all help Thomas
  5. I dont know if this makes a difference but it even makes noises sometimes when i go in reverse? left hand turns, right hand turns it just grinds real bad under 25mph, and then nother after that.
  6. Hello, so i have my 97 legacy LSi, and a few things im getting the throttle position sensor replaced next thursday the 11/17, but this saturday the 11/5 i noticed a grinding noise in the right side, then today a guy said it could be the bearing, the calibar* (i really have no clue what that is) when im going 0-25 is when the grinding noise happens, after that it stops. any suggestions? Thanks! Thomas
  7. hey there everyone. So i have a '96 Legacy Lsi sedan, 105,500, and its a great car, last nighthowever the check engine light came on and now im freaked out. It ran fine this morning, so what are some possible problems? or is it like my friends said just a computer chip problem, i had an old ford tempo that did that had it checked twice and nothing was wrong, but the light was always on. any help? Thanks! Thomas
  8. So i replaces the alternator, i will check the voltage tomorro, but it started right up when i picked it up, and it started a couple other times after that so im happy. the new battery didnt even make it a week (even though today was -20) so im going to turn it on later tonight, and let it run for about a half an hour. Hopefully it will be ok. Thanks for all the help guys!
  9. OK so heres the news post getting my car fixed..... Wheel bearing replaced, no more noise! YES! RadiatorFlushed, new coolent put in, and the thermostat replaced just in case, so far so good....... NEW problem i think, When can you tell its just the battery, or the alternator?????????? Tuesday the 11th i drove the car all day, nothing happened, went to get gas, got in the car, ar wouldnt start.... got a new battery on thursday started up, and is still working.....is there any way to tell if its the alternator, or am i just worrying? Thanks for all the help! Thomas
  10. I'm having everything checked out on the 14th, I heard from some family members today that it is probably either the thermostat, or i need to "burp" the radiator, thanks for all the help, i'll reply back then! happy holidays!
  11. First off, hello everyone! This is a great message board, and happy holidays to everyone! So heres the deal. I bought a '92 Subaru Legacy wagon, automatic, 171k to last me till next spring '06 wheni graduate school, i live off campus so its a good car i feel to drive me around. but here are two problems i am having 1 the wheel bearing, and 2 over heating. 1) I know the right rear wheel bearing needs to be replaced, its been making a WAH WAH WAH sound since i bought it, but didnt know it was the wheel bearing till about a month or so ago. I live an hour and a half away from home where my school is, so on vacations i drive home, and havent had any problems yet. my first question is, how bad is it that im driving it on the interstate? and What other bad things can happen besides the wheel bearing, that will eventually be replaced in the coming weeks? 2) I havent actually had the car over heat where steam was coming out, but the temp gauge has had the needle up there. When im on the high way and it gets passed the half way and i rev, the engine the needle goes down. I was at the canadian border waiting for about 10 minutes till i got through, and the needle stayed half way. I drove up to a mountain resort about 8 miles frommy house, and within 7 minutes it was higher than normal. The heater works, Both fans on the radiator work. What else could it be? I'm going to have the wheel bearing fixed in two weeks, should i tell them to see whats going on, or is this something that is to be expected from a 12 year old car? Other than these two things the car runs great, and for my first car i am having a good time with it. Thanks for any and all help!
